Implementing an effective OHS program in an operation this extensive and diverse – an operation that involves more than 30,000 employees and contractors for mining and ore processing, ore flow and processing, power plant installations, land transport, an air charter, port activities and watercrafts, a residential city, dormitories, and a hotel – is complicated. It involves a focus on management and oversight; a comprehensive OHS management system for every operating aspect; introductory, basic, special skills training courses and oversight – including annual refreshers; and systems to track the results and progress that has been achieved towards OHS targets.
