Beto: 'This Goal is for Freeport'

Two goals were scored by Persipura striker Alberto “Beto” Goncalves and were dedicated to PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and to Bio Paulin (his teammate, Persipura back player) after the signing of the sponsorship agreement between Freeport and Persipura (4/17). The team hosted Arema Indonesia at Mandala Stadium in Jayapura in the afternoon following the signing ceremony. With a new spirit and support of Persipura fans, Persipura Jayapura, "The Black Pearls," was victorious over Arema Indonesia with a score of 2 - 1.
PTFI is now the main official sponsor of "The Black Pearls" (Mutiara Hitam), the Persipura Jayapura soccer team. At the Sasana Karya Papuan Governor Office in Jayapura, PTFI, represented by President Director Rozik B. Soetjipto, and Benhur Tommi Mano of Persipura signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), witnessed by Acting Governor of Papua Syamsul Arief Rivai.

In his speech, Persipura Jayapura Chairman Tommi Mano said the signing of PTFI’s Persipura sponsorship has been a dream of the Papuan community, especially soccer lovers in Jayapura, for whom the team is a source of pride. "That dream has now become a reality as PTFI is now the main sponsor of Persipura for 2011-2012 and have safeguarded the team. Tommi Mano related his appreciation to PTFI for its support, and added that to maintain the trust of the sponsor Persipura management will use an open management system in managing the Rp 7 billion fund from PTFI for the 2011-2012 Indonesia Super League (ISL) season.
PTFI President Director Rozik B. Soetjipto said, "From what I can see of our plan to sponsor Persipura this year, it is my hope that it will not only be for this year, and needless to say it is our hope that the support will help Persipura to even greater glory." He also stated that he and the PTFI management team are big fans of Persipura.
The Acting Governor of Papua also related his hope that the MoU signing will drive Persipura management toward better performance and at minimum show to the Papuan community that Freeport's support has been realized to ensure that Persipura will long reign atop the national soccer arena. "With this dedication from PTFI, the people of Papua will feel that PTFI's presence in Papua is important both nationally and locally," he stated. (gm)
