Asian Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary Schools

PT Freeport Indonesia continue supporting Indonesian team who set out to compete in the 5th Asian Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary Schools (ASMOPS) 5th held at University Tengku Abdul Rahman College in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 21-25 November 2015. The team was competing in the prestigious Science and Mathematics consists of 16 elementary school students from all over Indonesia (includes from Timika SD Shining Stars and SD YPJ Kuala Kencana) which will led by Peter John, M.Si and Faris Rismawan, ST. Countries that participated in the 5th ASMOPS besides Malaysia and Indonesia are: Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Vietnam.  

16 students are grouped in the formation of four different teams, each team consists of two students who pursue mathematics and 2 students on science. They named the four teams representing Indonesia with: Freeport Kuala Kencana Team, Freeport Tembagapura Team, Freeport Grasberg Team, and Freeport Erstberg Team.

With the cooperation, enthusiasm and hard work of the entire team of Indonesia managed to get medals and awards in 5th ASMOPS (Asian Science and Math Olympiad for Primary School):

  1. Competition individuals Mathematics, get 1 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals
  2. The Science of individual competition, get 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.
  3. Competition between teams gain, 1 honorable mention medals, two bronze medals and one silver medal.

Indonesia Team coaching and departure would not go through without the support of PT Freeport Indonesia, always continues to provide support for education, especially the implementation of ASMOPS.

Hopefully the achievement by these children's would’ve bring an example and role models for children throughout Indonesia to continue their study and be part of Indonesia Berprestasi. (fh)
