Mimika Sports Commission & PTFI Endorse  The Mimika Sports Complex Development

Timika- Chairman of the Mimika Regency arm of Indonesia Sports Committee (KONI), Drs. Yopi Kilangin in a press release issued by Mimika KONI Public Relations to local news media including BERITA KITA PTFI said he and all officials for the 2014-2018 term highly endorsed development of the Mimika Sports Complex (MSC) under construction by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) in the Charitas SP2-SP5 area in Timika.

Yopi Kilangin said since the project’s groundbreaking officiated by Papua Governor Lukas Enembe on 2 September 2013, MSC development progress has achieved 31.7% completion, providing happy news for KONI and Mimika residents. KONI Mimika was also confident that the MSC completion date of December 2015 forecast by PTFI by way of its Special Projects Department as the party in charge of project supervision and construction would be met. “It is not too long a period for us to prepare for the region’s sports achievements which will be focused at MSC,” Yopi remarked enthusiastically.

Yopi Kilangin added, “A report was submitted by the KONI Mimika delegation led by General Secretary George Deda, during the bimonthly coordination meeting at the MSC project office in Charitas SP2-SP5 held by the Mimika Regency administration through its Youth and Sports Office and attended by Office Chief Yohanis Anggaibak and staff, KONI Mimika officials, and PT Freeport Indonesia’s Special Projects Department team headed by Denny Hudijana, on Wednesday, 5 November 2014. “It was a good collaborative coordination with PT Freeport Indonesia, who presented details on MSC physical development, which has now achieved 31.7% progress. Overall, development is according to the MSC master plan, with focus on the Athletics Stadium that is according to IAAF (International Association Athletic Federation) standard and including Indoor Stadiums for other sports, as well as dormitories for male and female athletes and other supporting facilities,” he divulged.

He said according to the contractor, PT PP, MSC will become the second best sports arena in Indonesia after the Stadion Madya complex in Jakarta. MSC will become an icon of pride for Papuans, he went on, as well as a prime sports facility provided by Mimika Regency for the 20th National Games (PON) to be held in Papua in 2020,” he said.

To this end, in his capacity as KONI Mimika chairman and a community leader, Yopi Kilangin appealed to all components in Mimika to support PT Freeport Indonesia smooth operations so that MSC development will be expedited and meet its target completion date. “All of us in Mimika and Papua must lend our support for Freeport’s smooth operations, so that PTFI contribution for MSC will also remain smooth. For if Mimika’s social, industrial and security situations are favorable, they will positively affect realization of the Mimika Sport Complex,” he said.

In this respect, Yopi Kilangin added on behalf of Mimika Regency KONI whose new officers were inducted on 25 October 2014 by Papua Province KONI chairman Klemen Tinal, SE, MM who is also Papua’s Vice Governor, “As chairman of KONI Mimika I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks to PTFI for its contribution towards realizing MSC for the advancement and sports achievements of the people of Mimika and Papua,” he said.  (Article by Mimika KONI Public relations and Gasper Muabuay)
