Freeport Indonesia integrate advanced technology of Advanced Simulator into Heavy Equipment Operation Training program
One great company can only be managed by qualified Human Resources. The Company realize that it is important to utilize rapid change of mining technology to develop human resources of PT Freeport Indonesia. As part of utilizing the rapid change of technology, Technical Training Department (QMS) of Learning & Organizational Development Division (L&OD) integrate advanced technology of Advanced Simulator into Heavy Equipment Operation Training program.
Advanced Simulator offers different types of applications that are very useful in introducing components and functions of heavy equipment, area familiarization, and even the detail part of technical way to operate the equipment. Because of this reason, simulator become an excellent choice not only for new hired before joining on – the job training but also experienced operator to increase skills in operating equipment in different types of condition.

(Left) Advanced Simulator for trining will not only decrease any kind of potential injury but also increase driving awareness.
There are several advantages in using Advanced Simulator for trainings.
First, It provide a safer condition for both instructor and participant. This is in line with Company’s commitment as stated on FRESH Standard Number 1.01 Mine Safety Policy (Article 6 Regulation of Ministry No 38 Year 2014 SMKP). This training will not only decrease any kind of potential injury but also increase driving awareness. By using simulator, instructor can apply emergency scenario that is impossible to be conducted using real heavy equipment. Instructor also will be able to measure the speed and accuracy of an operator during emergency condition.
Secondly, simulation based training helps reduce the duration of equipment usage for training and to optimize equipment utilization for production purposes. It will reduce fuel cost and any loss caused by property damage. Therefore it is an effort of cost efficiency program.
Currently, Technical Training Department of Learning & Organizational Development (L&OD Division) provides heavy equipment operation training using simulation for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Since 2006 through May 30, 2017, it is recorded that 41,343 employees has been been trained to use the simulator.
It has recorded thousands of training and refresher hours. We hope using this Advanced Simulator in conducting Training and Heavy Equipment refresher may enhance learning outcome to produce reliable operator, increase productivity, reduce operation cost, and support safety culture in PT Freeport Indonesia.
