Let Us Unite to Overcome These Difficult Times

Freeport Indonesia is monitoring developments with regard to the COVID-19 outbreak. Our priority is to protect the health and safety of our employees and to provide a safe working environment. Freeport Indonesia’s management team has strived in all divisions to ensure all safety precautions and protocols are provided.

It is vital for all employees, the community, and all stakeholders to come together in the endeavor to follow recommendations from local and regional health authorities as well as the Government of Indonesia, towards helping to decelerate the spread of the virus. This collaborative effort includes taking measures to reduce potential contact among people and to practice proper hygiene, self-protection, and self-monitoring.

We are investing considerable resources and are advising our employees to implement these practices, to make personal sacrifices for the good of all, and to assume responsibility over the actions of employees and their teams.

Once this is resolved and we have gained employees’ understanding and support, we will be able to forge ahead with further mitigation measures, including:

  • Isolating Tembagapura, our operations area, by restricting all traveling/visits.
  • Imposing physical distancing to the best of our ability, such as by closing schools, restaurants and eateries, sports facilities, and other public areas. The same physical distancing will be imposed in the tram and employee buses, which will only operate within the operations area.
  • Raising our hygiene and health standards, with the spraying of disinfectant in working environments, and measuring employees’ temperatures at the city bus terminal and at other company entrances.
  • Ensuring medical procedures and treatment facilities meet Government recommendations, such as increasing the quantities of medical equipment (including Personal Protection Equipment and ventilators), conducting Mass Rapid Testing, and carrying testing equipment and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test kits.
  • Setting up quarantine and isolation facilities, and carrying out procedures recommended by the Government.

All such actions have undergone, and will continue to undergo, improvements according to the latest developments in the situation. PT Freeport Indonesia’s management team conduct a review on a weekly basis, so employees can feel safer carrying out their day-to-day activities.
