Teanus Nebegal, An Independent Entrepreneur
 "Local entrepreneurs can improve of the quality of life of Papuan community" said Teanus.

Teanus Nebegal a local entrepreneur from Ilaga is the founder of CV Kwakibera TImika. He began his business without any help or funds from anyone and has been trained by Social & Local Development Department of PT Freeport Indonesia.

CV Kwakibera was formed with his own fund then in 2006 he join the Micro, Small & Medium Local Business Training Program (PP-UMKM). The first project that they took is to clean the grass along the electric transmission lane and to paint all the electric poles along the PTFI road from Portsite to MP50.

With his perseverance and spirit Teanus learned to run his business well. In February 2012, CV. Kwakibera able to increase its operational vehicle by purchasing another pickup car. As the result Teanus is able to build a house, offices and business assets. he also is able to employ 12 people to help him with the business.

During his training with PP-UMKM, Teanus had the opportunity to join the feasibility study, advocacy with service users or the bank, business mentoring and business management training. In 2007 he also was able to join the entrepreneurial camp activities in Bali for one week which was organized by PP-UMKM. From this training Teanus feel more confident to run his business, he admit.

Another Amungme Business Success Story
 Bernard Alomang, an Amungme, who business has enjoyed great success.

Bernard Alomang was a PT Pangan Sari Utama employee, however in early 2010 he decided to be an entrepreneur and applied to join the the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise program (PP-UMKM) with the PTFI Social Local Development (SLD) Department.

That year Bernard started consultation with PP-UMKM, in hope of joining and becoming a participant of the program as a Papuan entrepreneur. Upon completing competency tests, on March 19, 2010, Bernard officially became a participant. Working with the Environmental Department, CV Nem Kamame became a supplier of grass for the cattle project at Mile 21.

 Bernard’s team has grown from four employees to six employees.

As a grass supplier, Bernard maintains his own 4 acres of private property as a plantation. To meet the full needs of MP21 requests of grass, Bernard also buys grass from farmers in the SP-5 and SP-6 areas. With his business, Bernard also plays a role in advancing the community’s economy surrounding that area. With hard work and perseverance, Bernard has gained the trust of his customers and is able to increase the amount of grass supply from 3 tons of grass per day to 6 tons of grass per day, and is able to employ up to 6 employees.

In addition to supplying elephant grass to the Environmental Department, CV Nem Kamame also manages a nursery located in the irrigation area, near the new market in Timika and is currently preparing 1,700 tree seedlings. (hp)

CV. Hanau Numus JTB Prioritizes Employees Safety & Health
 Bernard Alomang, an Amungme, who business has enjoyed great success.

CV. Hanau Numus JTB is one of many businesses supported by PT Freeport Indonesia's Social & Local Development Department. This local Papuan contractor that assigned for forest reforestation and remediation in Kuala Kencana always prioritizes the safety of its employees’ in carrying out their responsibilities.

In 2011 Hannauw’s began consultation process with the SLD Department, with the hope to join and receive support as a participant of the Micro, Small & Medium Local Business Program (UMKM) program. In June 2011, CV Hanau Numus was given a chance through the PTFI Environmental Department- Reclamation Group, as one of the contractors working on the forest remediation program in Kuala Kencana.

With the Forest Remediation work in Kuala Kencana, CV Hanau Numus JTB employs 9 employees and 7 of them are Papuan natives. On the first contract period (June-December 2011) CV Hanau Numus JTB planted 15 662 trees on a 39 hectare area for Kuala Kencana's Remediation Program.

By persistence and willingness to learn and run this business well, in 2012 CV Hanau Numus JTB was entrusted to continue the Kuala Kencana Remediation Program. The key success to CV Hanau Numus’ business is prioritizing safety and health of its employees. “Every morning before working, we begin with a prayer and then a safety meeting, safety equipment inspection and making sure every employee is using all personal protective equipment them, such as work helmets, safety shoes, and vest. We follow the PTFI safety procedures, and to this day, thank God we have never had any accidents” he added.

“We are targeting to plant 20.000 trees, currently we have planted approximately 15.662 trees. We are planting the rest now.” He goes on to explain that trainings, mentoring and assistance provided through the PTFI SLD and Environmental Departments, are very helpful. “Training and mentoring done by the SLD and the Environmental Department are great, they always have field practices that help us to learn they always provide direction, mentoring, and corrections on our mistakes so that it will not be repeated", Mussa explained.
