A total of 17 endemic Papuan animals were released back into their habitat on July 8, 2021. This activity was carried out to commemorate World Environment Day in collaboration with the Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA). The Kuala Kencana Forest was chosen as the release location because it considered suitable habitats with sufficient natural food availability, and was safe from threats and disturbances. The animals were previously treated and habituated in PT Freeport Indonesia's Mile 21 Animal Transit Cage, and have undergone health checks by a veterinarian from the Mimika Regency Livestock and Animal Health Service. As a mining company that has been operating for more than 5 decades in Mimika Regency, Papua, biodiversity conservation is certainly one of the important focuses of environmental management programs that have been carried out so far.

Mining deep underground has a high level of difficulty and safety risk that requires innovation to overcome it. One of the things we did was using the Rover Crawler when the Geoengineering team conducted a direct inspection of the underground mining area. The remote controlled Rover Crawler illuminates and streams live.In addition to employee safety, the use of Crawlers is also considered more effective because more data is obtained for all purposes from mine planning to setting production targets, thereby improving all parts of the mining process.
