12 May 2025

Wamena, May 12, 2025 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) handed over 2.3 tons of aid to residents affected by floods and landslides in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains Province. PTFI's Vice President of Papuan Affairs, Soleman Faluk, symbolically presented the aid to Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murip in Wamena on Saturday (5/10).

"We are deeply concerned about the disaster. May God provide protection, health, and resilience to all our brothers and sisters who are going through difficult times due to floods and landslides. We hope this aid can help meet basic needs and accelerate the recovery process," said Soleman.

The social aid from PTFI includes food supplies and daily necessities for vulnerable groups such as babies, children, and women. "We are committed to helping and alleviating the burden of residents affected by the disaster and supporting various government programs, including providing humanitarian assistance," said Soleman.

Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murip expressed appreciation to PTFI and stated that the aid would be immediately distributed to affected residents who currently urgently need food and daily necessities. "Thank you to Freeport Indonesia for coming to see and provide assistance to the community, and we receive this with gratitude on behalf of the community. We, the Jayawijaya Local Government, will distribute this aid to the community," he said.

Soleman added that PTFI continues to support humanitarian efforts and social development in Papua, especially in emergency situations like the current one. "PTFI will continue to be with the residents and local government in prayer and support. May the recovery process go smoothly and the community can rise again soon," he said.

The flood and landslide disaster in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains Province, occurred due to high rainfall intensity on April 25. Floods swept away traditional houses (honai) and residents' homes, plantations, schools, bridges, churches, and various other infrastructure. Data from the Ministry of Social Affairs indicates that this natural disaster has impacted 34 districts and more than 19,000 households. The Jayawijaya Regency Government declared a Flood and Landslide Emergency Status from April 26 to May 8.

PTFI supports the government in disaster management by conducting emergency response actions during disasters in Papua, such as extreme weather events including hail and drought in Agandugume, Puncak Regency in 2015 and 2023, a Pertussis disease outbreak in Nduga in 2016, flood and landslide disasters in Jayapura Regency in 2019 and 2022, and floods in Iwaka, Mimika Regency in 2024.
