Freeport Delivers Three Tons of Food in Assistance to Residents of Iwaka District Impacted by Floods

TIMIKA, 18 Juni 2024  -  PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) delivered assistance consisting of three tons of foodstuffs for residents of Iwaka District in Mimika Regency, through the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency BPBD.  

PTFI Senior Vice President (SVP) for Community Development, Nathan Kum presented the assistance symbolically to the Head of MImika Regency BPBD, Mozes Yarangga at the Mimika BPBD Offices  on Monday (17/06). It was reported that 1,653 Iwaka Districk residents have been impacted by high intensity rainfall occurring in Mimika since Monday (10/6).  

“This assistance embodies PTFI commitment to provide assistance and relief for residents hit by disaster,” PTFI Senior Vice President (SVP) for Community Development Nathan Kum said.  

Nathan said PTFI will continuously support government programs, including provision of humanitarian relief for residents hit by disaster. The assistance delivered to Iwaka District residents consisted of three tons of foodstuffs, including rice, eggs, cooking oil, sugar, coffee, biscuits, canned sardines, canned corned beef, milk, and infant food.   

Head of Mimika BPBD Mozes Yarangga said he was in coordination with Iwaka Village Heads to ensure the abovementioned assistance is appropriately distributed. He also expressed appreciation for the concern and care from PTFI to assist Iwaka District residents impacted by floods.   

"We appreciate the support demonstrated by PTFI and hopefully such good collaboration will continue in their acting as a government partner,” Mozes said.

A total of 3 tons of foodstuffs was presented by PTFI by way of Mimika BPBD for villagers in Iwaka District.

Mimika BPBD will subsequently distribute the assistance through the District Head and Village Heads of Iwaka to ensure a smooth, appropriate and proper distribution process.
