17 April 2024

Jakarta - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has deposited approximately  Rp 3.35 trillion to the account of the Central Papua Provincial Government for the region’s portion as the producing regency, and for other regencies in Central Papua Province,  from the company’s 2023 net profit.

“Payment of the portions for the regions from net profit is in realization of the company’s commitment to boost the economies of the regional governments,” PTFI President Director Tony Wenas said.

Tony disclosed in detail, the sum of approximately Rp 3.35 trillion was divided into around Rp 839 billion for Central Papua Province Government and around Rp 1.4 trillion for the Mimika Regency Government. Meanwhile other regencies in Central Papua Province, namely the regencies of Nabire, Paniai, Puncak, Puncak Jaya, Dogiyai, Deiyai, and Intan Jaya each received around  Rp160 billion.

In 2023 PTFI was able to produce 1.65 billion pounds of copper and 1.97 million ounces of gold. This operational performance by PTFI yielded net income amounting to 3.16 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp 48.79 trillion (assuming a currency exchange rate of  Rp 15,439 per USD). Overall, in 2023 revenue for the state in taxes, royalty, dividend, and other levies amounted to more than Rp 40 trillion, including in contribution for the regions, amounting to more than Rp 9 trillion.

Tony added, PTFI remains committed to providing benefits for communities near the company’s operating area, through diverse social investment programs. In 2023, PTFI social investment amounted to close to Rp 2 trillion, and this figure will increase by around 100 million US dollars or Rp 1.5 trillion per year, until the year 2041.

“We will have achieved success as a company when communities near our operating area attain a higher standard of living and more prosperity. We will continue to grow and develop in tandem with Papua until we conclude our mining operation in 2041,” Tony stated.
