Kuala Kencana - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is endeavoring to increase the skills of young native Papuans through its Papuan Bridge Program for Youth Entrepreneurship (PBP YET), a program specifically tailored for entrepreneurial development.

“The PBP YET program is part of PTFI’s social investment, conducted by way of Nemangkawi Mining Institute IPN. The program’s objective is to increase knowledge and skills in the field of entrepreneurship among native Papuan human resources,” PTFI Senior Vice President (SVP) for Sustainable Development, Nathan Kum stated during the launching of the first batch of PFP YET participants, in Kuala Kencana, Timika, on Wednesday (17/4).

11 participants passed the selection process for which 252 aspirants from across Papua had registered. Throughout this training period, they will be provided by PTFI with health facilities and pocket money.

One such participant, Yanti Onamawe who is from the indigenous Amungme Tribe expressed enthusiasm about joining the program. She is the proprietress of a kiosk rental business, and she was optimistic about acquiring new knowhow on entrepreneurship which she will be able to apply in the running of her business.

Another participant, who hails from the Kamoro Tribe, Fransina Weyau and sells betel nuts and operates a coffee stall, says she will earnestly endeavor to engage in the four-month program. She is proud to have been selected from among hundreds of aspirants who registered. “I am confident my business knowledge and skills will increase by participating in this PBP YET program organized by PTFI,” Fransina said.

Nathan revealed this training program adopted instruction material from the Dream Builder program initiated by Freeport McMoRan Foundation in collaboration with  Thunderbird School of Global Management and Arizona State University (ASU).
