Freeport Indonesia Shows Appreciation for Athletes Earning Medals at Paris Olympics 2024 and Their Coaches

Jakarta, 27 Agustus 2024 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) expressed appreciation for athletes and coaches who earned medals during the Paris Olympics 2024, at an "Indonesia Business Groups Appreciation Night for Paris Olympics 2024 Medal Recipients” event taking place in the Convergence Indonesia Epicentrum building in Jakarta, on Monday night (26/8).

“Freeport Indonesia is proud to consistently support sports accomplishments in Indonesia. Our congratulations to the athletes who strived on behalf of Indonesia at the international level,” PT Freeport Indonesia Deputy President Director Jenpino Ngabdi stated after presenting tokens of appreciation to gold medalist climbing athlete Veddriq Leonardo and his coach.

PTFI, along with other businesses joined under Indonesia Business Groups Synergy, awarded cash bonuses to athletes who won medals at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Paris Olympics 2024I Indonesian Contingent Chef de Mission Anindya Novyan Bakrie thanked the companies, which included Bank Mandiri, Pertamina, Freeport Indonesia, Real Estate Indonesia, Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara, Bumi Resources, Energi Mega Persada, and Sinarmas for their awarding cash bonuses to boost sports accomplishments in Indonesia. He voiced the hope that going ahead, such support from the business sector will continue so as to increase sports achievement in international arenas.

"The bonus awarded to gold medalists is IDR 1 billion, and to their coach, IDR 500 million, while the bronze medalist received IDR 350 million, and her coach, IDR 150 million,” Nindya disclosed.

The bonus recipients are weightlifting gold medalist Rizki Juniansyah, climbing gold medalist Veddriq Leonardo, and bronze medalist badminton athlete competing in the women’s singles event, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, and their respective coaches.

Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo said building sports accomplishments requires support from all, including the business community, as financial assistance is needed to produce accomplished athletes.

"Hopefully such assistance will continue to be provided as we get ready to prepare to compete in the 2028 Olympics, in which we hope to achieve more and greater successes,” Dito said.

Jenpino said PTFI remains committed to supporting advancement of sport in Indonesia, and specifically in Papua. Real steps towards realizing this have been and are being made, including establishment of the Mimika Sports Center stadium in Timika, founding Papua Football Academy (PFA), a football training center for children, and organizing the Freeport Grassroots Tournament in Jayapura and Gresik, aimed at providing children with the opportunity to gain experience through participation in football competitions.

PTFI also built Papua Athletics Center, a training center located in Mimika, Central Papua, for track and field athletes. This training center is operated in conjunction with All Indonesia Athletics Association Central Executive Board (PB PASI) and is aimed at developing young athletes from Papua.
