Gresik, March 27, 2025 – The holy month of Ramadan becomes PT Freeport Indonesia’s moment to share happiness with the Gresik community. Food packages and donations for orphans and flood victims are distributed through various social activities, making this year’s Ramadan even more meaningful.
“We want Freeport’s presence in Gresik indeed bring real and substantive impacts for the community and Ramadan is a meaningful opportunity to share with others. We are here in Gresik not only to become a part of the industry but also part of the community,” said VP of Business Process Smelting & Refining PTFI Aripin Buman in Gresik on Thursday.
Aripin said that at the beginning of Ramadan on 4 March, PTFI moved quickly to help residents who were affected by floods in South Gresik. Foodstuffs, blankets, and children's necessities are distributed to the Gresik Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Head of Gresik BPBD Sukardi appreciates PTFI’s assistance.
“On behalf of the Gresik Regency Government, we expressed our gratitude to all parties that helped us, including PT Freeport Indonesia. The government can’t handle the disaster alone, collaboration among all stakeholders is crucial to ensure effective disaster response and accelerate the recovery of affected communities," Sukardi said on Tuesday (04/03).
Moreover, PTFI distributed 100 food packages for people with disabilities during the Safari Ramadan held by the Gresik Regency Government on March 11. Sulaimah, a mother of a child with special needs who received the aid, expressed her gratitude. "This assistance is beneficial for my child, and I hope it can be provided regularly throughout Ramadan," she said.
Aripin said Freeport also invited 200 orphans and underprivileged children from the Manyar and Bungah Districts. Apart from food packages and school supplies, this event also presented storytelling about Sunan Giri to instill historical and moral values in children. This event was held simultaneously in PTFI’s four operational areas, Jakarta, Mimika, and Gresik, on 18 March.
“In this Ramadan, we also shared with Gresik PMI (Indonesian Red Cross) volunteers by distributing 500 and 900 food packages to residents near the Manyar industrial area through the JIIPE Ramadan Charity initiative," said Aripin.
Furthermore, as a part of its commitment to preserve local wisdom and enliven Ramadan, Freeport also supported the 500th Sanggring Festival, a historic festival that has been celebrated for five centuries in Gresik as a tribute to religious figures who played a pivotal role in the spread of Islam in Gresik.
