National Love Flora and Fauna Day presents an occasion to raise awareness and foster love of flora and fauna towards the conservation of biodiversity.
PT Freeport Indonesia through its Environmental Department held a talk show and ornamental plant contest at the Kuala Kencana shopping center atrium on Friday, 27 October. The activity adopted the theme “Green Mission by Save Biodiversity” to campaign among the public for heartfelt and sincere conservation of biodiversity. The event was held to commemorate Love Flora and Fauna Day, which falls on every 5 November. On that day an activity by PTFI’s environmental department and the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) is scheduled to be held, to release wildlife into their natural habitat.
Friday’s activity was attended by PTFI Environmental General Superintendent Robert Sarwom, head of the Timika chapter of Papua BBKSDA Bambang H Lakuy, Timika Class I Agricultural Quarantine Station Operational Services Subsection Chief Drh Adi Ardiansyah, PTFI Environmental Department Lowland Biodiversity Superintendent Tumpal Sinaga, USAID Lestari Landscape Communication & Advocacy Specialist Rini Sulistyawati, Mimika Police Criminal Investigation Operations Chief Inspector First Class Rannu SH, and members of animal lovers communities such as Papua Animal Care (PANIC), Mimika Reptile Lovers (MIROR), and Reptile Timika Community (RTC).
