12 April 2024

(TEMBAGAPURA) On the momentum of its 57th anniversary in April, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) constructed a bridge between Banti 2 and Banti 1 to access easier transportation, expedite distribution of logistics, and gain easier access to clean water and health facilities between the two villages.

"On this momentum of PTFI'S 57th anniversary, we hope residents in the operational area can have the advantage of the company's presence with   this connecting bridge which is an important access for the residents of Banti 2 and Banti 1," said Senior Vice President  Sustainable Development PTFI Nathan Kum, on the ceremony of the ground breaking or first milestone of the bridge on Sunday, April 7.

Nathan said, "Support for the construction of this bridge for the Banti community is part of our 3 Villages for the Banti Community MOU. The specifics of the bridge is 36 meters long, 4 7 meters wide and has a capacity up to 35 tons." Construction will be finished by the beginning of 2025.

"This bridge follows government regulations. Previously it was according to the '3 Villages MOU' which was only up to ten tons, but now its capacity has been upgraded to 35 tons," Nathan Kum added.
Nathan continued that with a larger capacity, the new bridge can hold large vehicles such as buses and trucks, making transportation easier for the locals.

The ground breaking ceremony was also attended by Vice President Papuan Affairs Division Soleman Faluk, witnessed by religious officials and local dignitaries of Waa Banti. Also present at the ceremony were Manager CLO Marthinus Badii, TE Community Affairs Kornel Gartner, representatives of District Chief of Police, Sectoral Chief of Police and Tembagapura Military Commander, as well as local task forces from the military and police.

Sharing in Church

Besides the inauguration of the connecting bridge between Banti 2 and Banti 1 villages, PTFI visited the Church of Jerusalem Congregation in Banti 2, which had just finished renovations conducted by both PTFI and the local government after it was damaged by a landslide.

The residents attended a service to give thanks and celebrate the 57 years of PTFI. Five church congregations attended the service, from Banti 2, Banti 1, Sinai Opitwak, Antiokia Kimbeli and Pison Kimbeli.
PTFI also donated 500 folding chairs to the Yerussalem Banti 2 church and two food packages for the community.

"Thank you for the donation and support from PTFI to our community so we may hold better services, also thank you for the folding chairs and the food supplies, the locals most definitely appreciate this," said Waa Banti Rev.Kristian Jangkup.

Kristian said the Banti community and church congregations appreciate PTFI's contribution on the company's 57th anniversary. "This is proof the PTFI cares about the community around the mining area, especially the Seven Ethnic groups," he added.

Besides beginning construction on the bridge and donating church facilities, PTFI also renovated several points in Waa Banti, including building a monument in Banti school grounds, installing portable trash cans on the roads, repairing clean water hoses, improving roads with gravel, painting Banti bus stops and more.

PTFI'S anniversary is on April 7th. On this momentum in this year, the theme is "Working for Indonesia" as a commitment and determination of all employees to give the best for the nation. The company operates and is built on values of Safety, Integrity, Commitment, Respect, and Excellence (SINCERE). With this commitment it hopes to continue to give the best for Indonesia.
