Tembagapura, 18 Agustus 2024 – In commemorating the 79th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day in Tembagapura, Central Papua, on Saturday (17/8) PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) sent a message for harmony in diversity.

Tembagapura is Indonesia in miniature, with thousands of employees hailing from different regions with diverse cultures live alongside each other. In this celebration of Republic of Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day, we showcased this diversity of cultures with a Parade of Dances from an Independent Nusantara. The message we wished to send is that we should consistently maintain harmony in diversity,” 79th Republic of Indonesia (RI) Independence Day Commemorations Committee Head Benyamin conveyed on Sunday.

The Parade of Dances from an Independent Nusantara that followed the flag raising ceremony was a collaborated effort staged by the different divisions in PTFI to present cultural dance performances. For this parade of dances, employees came across differently from their usual appearance, dressed in traditional costumes and accessories from different regions. From the sides of the Tembagapura football field, thousands of spectators watching the dance performances with musical accompaniment swayed and moved in rhythm with the music.

Benyamin divulged the parade of dances was conceptualized in collaboration between various PTFI divisions and cultural associations in Tembagapura. Rehearsals involving 10 members from each group were held for around three weeks.

The parade kicked off with a performance collaborated between the Learning and Organization Development Division and the South Sumatra Communities Association that emanated the innate nuance of Sumatra. Then the Katreji Dance from Maluku was performed by Operation Maintenance Division and the Maluku Families Association.

"I am so happy to have had this opportunity to participate in RI 79th Independence Day celebrations in this year, in particular because this year’s Independence Day celebrations set a new MURI record for a flag-raising ceremony to be held on the highest elevation in Indonesia,” a performer from Industrial Relations Division, Karolina Natkime said.
