The Occupational Health & Safety Division – Emergency Preparedness & Response (OH&S – EP&R) has provided the best of the best, they are consistently trained to provide qualified emergency response supported by renewable equipment, not only limited to the events at the jobsite, the local government where PTFI is located as well as a facing national disaster, but they are also trained to participate in a national event such as Indonesian Fire & Rescue Challenge / Competition (IFRC).
This annual event is held under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), while the event is carried out in different locations each year at Mining companies, Oil and Gas and large industries located throughout Indonesia as well as training centers such as Oil & Gas Education & Training Centers, EMR and Pertamina.
There are two activity formats held, the Fire & Rescue Challenge and Fire & Rescue Competition. This depends on the decision of Indonesian Fire & Rescue Board of Directors. Our IFRC team have been active participants every year since 1995, except in 1999 because the event was cancelled.
Of the 20 times this event has been held (16 times Challenge and 4 times Competition), our IFRC team have managed to bring home 12 times Overall Winner/Champion; 9 of them on the activities of Indonesian Fire & Rescue Challenge and 3 times of activities Indonesian Fire & Rescue Competition. Additionally we were six-time the 2nd Overall winners. This is a proud achievement, since our team is unbeaten and have held the Overall Winner/Champion for 7 times in a row for the Indonesian Fire & Rescue Challenge and 2 times respectively for Indonesian Fire & Rescue Competition.

Pertamina (Persero) - B and Total Exploration Indonesie, PT. Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk, PUSDIKLAT Oil and Gas Cepu.
Although a trophy / gold medal is not our aim in participating in these events, because the most important thing for us is how to optimize the knowledge and skills obtained from this activity to enable our team to provide high standard, high quality aid in a professional and safe manner. We are determined to bring the Overall Winner trophy home, it is after all the symbol of our hard work and achievement and also the hopes of all teams / companies participating in this annual event.
Everything can happen in a challenge or competition, those who have the mental preparation, physical excellence and competency can achieve the winning category. There are times when we have to recognize the caliber and mental readiness of other teams like when our team lost against the other competitors on certain activities such as Structural Fire Fighting Search and Rescue where our team were only able to bring home the Bronze, while in High Angle Rescue, Firefighter Competency Test and Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue they were able to bring home the Gold.
With hard training and tremendous enthusiasm and of course on the full support of PTFI Management, a glorious victory was achieved, this year they were able to bring home the achievement as Overall Winner in the 4th Fire & Rescue Competition 4th and raised PTFI in the realm of Emergency Response for having reached 12 times Overall Winner of the Indonesian Fire & Rescue Challenge and Competition. A remarkable achievement! (im & Irwan Hakim)
