In addition, there are also a number of competitions, such as coloring competition for Kindergarten (TKK) & Elementary School (SD) YPJ KK and Tembagapura students, a TikTok competition for the public, a plastic recycling video competition for employees and their families, and a fashion show competition for the general categories of Timika, Kuala Kencana, and Tembagapura. . At the peak event which took place at Memorial Park Kuala Kencana, PT Freeport Indonesia's VP of Environment, Gesang Setiadi in his remarks invited the community to always give a positive spirit to care for and preserve nature.

According to him, within 50 years of commemorating Environment Day, we should be increasingly aware that we must be in harmony with the natural surroundings. "Kuala Kencana is an example that we can live in harmony with nature. This city is arranged in such a way with modern system. Electricity is planted underground. Our environment is covered by forests which are still good, still beautiful, still like the original condition. So, this is a very good example where we can live together with nature without disturbing each other," he said.

"So is Tembagapura. There we live together with nature. We don't destroy nature, we protect nature. There are gardens there, we try to replant. In Kuala Kencana it's the same, we have wild gardens to replant, we even involve people who were previously involved in opening wild gardens to carry out rehabilitation together," he added.

Things like that, he said, are positive examples that the PT Freeport Indonesia community can do to be able to contribute to nature and also to the future of our children and grandchildren. "And with this commemoration, we want to remind the community at PT Freeport Indonesia so that we can rediscover that we are one part of nature. We must make a positive contribution to nature through concrete actions that we can take," he concluded.

In addition, PTFI's Director and Executive Vice President of Sustainable Development, Claus Wamafma interpreted this activity as a revival where the world was previously hit by a pandemic. "This morning we are here, we show that we are strong, that we are recovering. We also send a clear message related to the spirit of optimism to make a better future," he said.

He also wanted to convey something about PTFI's commitment to supporting environmental conservation. According to him, PTFI as a mining company cannot be separated from environmental issues. "We have global issues related to the environment. And whether we like it or not, as a company that conducts mining in Papua we are also faced with issues related to the environment, environmental management, and also environmental conservation," he said.

This issue requires PTFI to always ensure that its operations meet all the standards demanded by the international community. "One of the most common is the environment and that is our commitment. We are talking about the environment, Freeport has ensured that we are also contributing in several global issues related to Indonesia and global warming," he explained.

He stated that in 2023, PTFI is committed to reducing emissions and sees all the potentials to be converted as renewable energy sources. "Once again I want to emphasize our serious commitment related to the environment. Hopefully all divisions, all departments taking part today will contribute together and also send a message that we are serious about the environment. We want to protect the environment together," he concluded.

It is noted that the peak of this event will last for three days. Starting from today, 10th June 2022 to Sunday, 12th June 2022. This event also invited several top local artists, including Mace Purba and Mitha Talahatu as well as several well-known bands.
