Nabire, November 6, 2025 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) together with the Nabire Regency Government signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) for the implementation of the Partnership to Accelerate Stunting Reduction in Indonesia--Papua (PASTI-Papua) Program at the Nabire Regent's Office, Thursday, November 6, 2025.
"This collaboration represents the company's commitment to continue supporting development in the Land of Papua and providing sustainable positive impact. Through PASTI-Papua, we hope to strengthen regional capacity and local communities," said PTFI Director & Executive Vice President (EVP) of Sustainable Development Claus Wamafma.
PASTI-Papua is a collaborative program between the Ministry of Health and PTFI to accelerate stunting reduction and improve child nutritional status in Central Papua Province (Mimika and Nabire Regencies) and South Papua Province (Asmat Regency).
"This program will support the implementation of the government's National Strategy for Accelerating Stunting Prevention and Reduction (2025--2029) to reduce Indonesia's stunting rate to 14.4% by 2029," said Claus.
Nabire Regent Mesak Magai welcomed the partnership and signing of the cooperation agreement conducted today with PTFI. In Nabire Regency, PASTI-Papua operates in 7 (seven) villages/subdistricts.
"On behalf of the Nabire regency government, we express our appreciation to PTFI for providing support to the community in the health sector, making them the best partner for the Nabire Regency Government in assisting the government's main duties. The PASTI-Papua Program will support improving quality of life and community independence," said the Regent.
According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, the stunting rate in South Papua Province reached 28 percent and Central Papua Province reached 40 percent, higher than other provinces in Indonesia. Referring to the Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) launched in 2025, Nabire Regency showed a decrease in wasting and overweight, and showed an increase in stunting and underweight.
In efforts to eliminate stunting in Papua, PTFI involves Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) as a humanitarian organization focused on child growth monitoring. "Together with PTFI, we are committed to making an impact in reducing stunting in assisted communities. By adhering to local context, we demonstrate this commitment through approaches and empowerment at the community, local government, and health service levels," said Wahana Visi Indonesia National Director, Angelina Theodora.
