Gresik, August 22, 2024 - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) supports educational transformation in the Society 5.0 era through a series of programs implemented in 36 schools across 9 beneficiary villages in Manyar District, Gresik.
"We hope that through this program, we can improve the technological skills of educators and students in the Society 5.0 era, leading to innovation and technological development," said Emily Muteb, Manager of Environmental & Sustainable Development at PTFI in Gresik on Wednesday.
She explained that the program series includes Teacher Education Seminars, Student Outbound activities, Technology Utilization Training, and a Learning Media Competition, taking place from July to August 2024. The Teacher Education Seminar, themed "Strategies for Transforming Educators' Mindset and Character in Facing the Society 5.0 Era Towards the Realization of Indonesia's Golden Generation 2045," featured Prof. Dr. Moh. Ali Aziz, a Professor from IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The seminar, held on July 23, aimed to instill awareness among educators to become role models and inspirators for students in facing the digitalization era.
The seminar was attended by 214 participants, including school principals and teachers from 36 educational institutions (elementary/Islamic elementary, junior high/Islamic junior high, high school/Islamic high school/vocational school) in 9 villages around PTFI's Smelter operational area.
To instill discipline in students, PTFI conducted a School Children Outbound program on July 26- 27 in Prigen, Pasuruan. This program was attended by 130 participants aged 10-16 years.
In addition to the outbound, a seminar was also held by child psychologist Muhammad Batrizira titled "Strengthening Student Discipline through the Mentari Program (Attractive Neat Appearance) and Limbah (See, Pick Up, and Dispose of Waste in Its Place)."
Technology Utilization Education Training was also conducted on August 7-8, including seminars and workshops on creating interactive learning media. The aim of this activity was to utilize advanced technology in education and improve educators' soft skills to be more innovative and interactive. This event was attended by 150 teachers from schools in 9 villages.
"Most recently, today we're holding a Learning Media Competition as an implementation of the previously conducted workshop to hone teachers' creativity in applying learning media," Emily said on Wednesday (8/21).
The Chairperson of the Education Program Series, Siti Munaroh, expressed her appreciation to PTFI and hoped that this cooperation could continue. This support demonstrates PTFI's strong commitment to education. "We hope that the collaboration will continue so that we can improve the quality of schools from elementary to high school. This program is greatly needed by teachers to update activities and introduce new elements in learning activities," said Siti.
As part of its educational support, PTFI, through the Joint Transformation Center (PTB), also provided assistance in the form of smart TVs and printers to 36 educational institutions in 9 villages. PTB or Joint Transformation Center is an institution born from the collaboration between PTFI, the Manyar Mosque Takmir Foundation (Yatamam), and PT Raya Manyar Persada (RMP).
PTB's main function is to manage temporary recyclable waste from the smelter construction project. This facility strives for material recovery through recycling concepts to reduce inorganic waste directly disposed of in landfills. The recycled waste is sold, and the income is used to finance various activities in education, religion, health, and the environment for the Gresik community, especially those living in the area surrounding the smelter location. The entire series of educational activities is funded from the proceeds of PTB's waste processing.
