Freeport To Conduct Vaccination For Its Employees and Their Families

14 June 2021

As a tangible form of the company's commitment to the health and safety of its employees and their families, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has started implementing the Covid-19 Vaccination program. Vaccination is carried out through the Mutual Cooperation Vaccine (VGR) program and through the Mimika Cooperation with Local Government (Pemda) program, for employees and their families who meet the requirements. In total, there are around 38.000 employees and their families who are registered to receive vaccine injections.

The President Director of PTFI, Tony Wenas said that the Covid-19 vaccine was carried out in stages based on vaccine procurement by the Government through Biofarma and the allocation of vaccines to companies.

In the first phase of the VGR program, the vaccine was given to 500 employees and their families at the PTFI Jakarta Office starting on 14th June 2021 and will be given to 5.855 PTFI employees in the work area using the Sinopharm vaccine.

As for vaccinations through a cooperation program with the Mimika Regional Government, PTFI has received the Sinovac vaccine which has begun to be given to 4.500 employees in the work area since the second week of June 2021.

The Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines have passed the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM RI), and have received approval for their use in an emergency from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

"PTFI welcomes the vaccination collaboration with the Mimika Regional Government and the Gotong Royong Vaccination program which launched by the Government with the support of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to accelerate the achievement of collective immunity or herd immunity. PTFI's priority is to protect the health and safety of employees, as well as to provide a safe work environment," said Tony Wenas.

Furthermore, Tony added that PTFI management always ensures the implementation of all health protocols and makes continuous efforts to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in all work areas.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, PTFI has improved the company's medical services by expanding the range of examinations in order to identify positive cases more quickly and carry out tracing. In addition, PTFI is also assisting the community by using the Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) machine and its laboratory to analyze Covid-19 swab test samples from hospitals in Mimika and districts around Mimika in Papua.
