No Half Measures, Freeport Will Cut 30% Emissions in the Mine!

23 March 2022

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) expressed its commitment to cut carbon emissions totaling 30% by the year 2030. This measure is implemented as an effort by the company to run a sustainable mining company. President Director PT Freeport Indonesia, Tony Wenas, said that since 2018 the company has continued to implement measures to reduce carbon emissions. In fact, not just within the PT Freeport Indonesia realm, but also up to the company’s supply chain. “We do this, so that not just in PT Freeport Indonesia, but also in our supply chain we implement the same measures, thereby creating a total/overall reduction of emissions,” he stated on ‘Economic Outlook 2022, CNBC INDONESIA’, Tuesday (3/22).

Furthermore, in order to suppress carbon emission, the company also targets to rehabilitate approximately four thousand hectares of land. Up to the present, two thousand hectares have already been reclaimed by the company. “With this quite aggressive target, up to the middle of this year we have from time to time already been able to reclaim two thousand hectares, and the peak will be later in 2041,” he explained.

Not just stopping there, the company is also planting mangrove trees totaling approximately between 50 to 100 hectares per year. This represents one of the company’s efforts to reduce carbon emission even more.
