PT Freeport Indonesia and Papua University Continue Cooperation in Various Development Fields

Manokwari, April 25, 2025 - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and Papua University (UNIPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to development programs in education, teaching, student training, and educators, research and community service, as well as information dissemination.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by UNIPA President Dr. Hugo Warami S.Pd., M.Hum. and PTFI President Director Tony Wenas in Manokwari, Friday (4/25).

Tony Wenas explained that the cooperation between UNIPA and PTFI has been ongoing for a long time, for 30 years since 1995. "Today's MoU between PTFI and UNIPA is a continuation of the cooperation that has been running so that we can be enriched with knowledge, science, and academic studies," said Tony.

Tony added that PTFI operations must be carried out in a good and correct manner, sustainable, and prioritizing sustainable safe production. "PTFI will someday come to an end, but that doesn't mean that the life of the community around PTFI has to stop. This is our shared responsibility on how we prioritize sustainable safe production," said Tony.

Meanwhile, UNIPA President Dr. Hugo Warami S.Pd., M.Hum. conveyed that the entire UNIPA academic community is very happy and proud because the cooperation with PTFI can be sustainable. "Hopefully this cooperation can continue to be developed in a broader direction in the future," said the President.

The President stated that they have been supporting PTFI in sustainable mining related to environmental studies. "Of course with this cooperation, UNIPA is always ready to help PTFI and also educate the public through the studies carried out. Scientific studies are the undeniable answer to existing problems," said the President.

On this occasion, Tony conveyed PTFI's commitment to provide additional scholarships for highachieving UNIPA students. PTFI has established strong synergy with various universities, including UNIPA, to improve the quality of human resources in Papua, encourage education and research, and empower communities around the mine through social investments in education, health, infrastructure, culture, and sports.
