Freeport Gifts Football Shoes to Football Clubs Near Gresik Smelter

Gresik, 8 Juli 2024 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) in collaboration with All Indonesia Football Union PSSI distributed football shoes to five football clubs or schools in Manyar District and Bungah District, in Gresik Regency, East Java.

“The distribution of football shoes was by way of PTFI fulfillment of its commitment to work together with PSSI to support advancement of football in Indonesia, in particular for children in regions where we operate, in Papua and Gresik,” PTFI Vice President of Corporate Communications Katri Krisnati said.

The five football schools or SSBs mentioned above are located in the vicinity of PTFI’s smelter operation in Gresik, with four SSBs located in Manyar District, including SSB Gresik Generasi, SSB POAS Muda, Persim Manyar, and SSB Peganden, whereas the SSB in Bungah District is SSB Mengare. The football shoes were presented symbolically by a PSSI Representative through the Gresik Regency PSSI Association, to SSB managers and players at the respective SSB locations, on Wednesday (3/7).

Katri expressed the hope that the gifting of football shoes would serve to increasingly motivate children to play football better and more avidly. “Hopefully this action will spark their enthusiasm and drive them to achieve accomplishments, going ahead, and make the people of Gresik, East Java and Indonesia proud,” Katri said.

PTFI remains committed to supporting the development and advancement of football in Indonesia through various actions, including sponsoring the Indonesian national team and the clubs Persipura Jayapura and PSBS Biak, establishment of the Papua Football Academy (PFA) for Papuan children, and collaborating with PPPDI to hold the Freeport Grassroot Tournament in Papua and Gresik, with the tournament designed according to FIFA Grassroots Tournament guidelines.

“We are confident that through commitment and synergy with multiple entities, football in Indonesia will continue to develop and produce increasingly brilliant achievements ahead,” Katri said.
