22 Youths Pass Preliminary Selections in Freeport-Sponsored PFA Talent Search, Will Undergo Medical Check-up and Psychology Test Today

Today on Monday (13/6/2022), 22 children of ages 13 to 14 years who passed preliminary selection in a Papua Football Academy (PFA) talent search sponsored by PT Freeport Indonesia are taking part in the next stage, to undergo medical check-ups and psychological tests.

Secretary of the Mimika Regency chapter of All Indonesia Football Association PSSI, Bobby Yakadewa says results of the medical check-up and psychological test conducted at a hotel situated on Jalan Cenderawasih, SP2 Timika will be announced in July. “The medical check-up and psychological test conducted today will have the results announced in early July,” Bobby informed Salam Papua in Timika today.

Earlier on Saturday (11/5/2022) and Sunday (12/5/2022), preliminary selections consisting of three parts were held in the Wania Imipi Stadium in SP1 Timika. The preliminary selections had opened up this opportunity for 200 children, but only 80 participated, with 22 passing the selections.

The names of those passing preliminary selection were announced by PFA Director Wolfgang Pikal, who also heads the Selection Team, to the football players taking part in the selection event yesterday at the Wania Imipi green field. The names of those passing selection included Ignatius Israt Itopi Adii, Peres Rumasep, Kristian Parapea, Daniel Kureyauta, Robby Kehek, Joice Wanma, Alexandro Bernard Nepra, Muhammad Agil, Caesar Antonio Waukateyau, Jack Koga and Bramko Yigwa.

They are followed by Ferdinan Nanlohi, Zakarias, Arif Pakage, Gerry Rumaropen, Yohanis Levy, Hengky Maniagasi, Jeremia Gamai, Richardo, Ferdy Lionel Wuarlela, Karel Otto Womsiwor and Essien Albertho Kaberi. After making the announcement, Wolfgang Pikal congratulated the successful participants, and conveyed words of encouragement to their fellow players who did not pass. "You are all outstanding. To those who did not pass this time, please do not be discouraged, and continue training hard as we will be meeting again next year, when selections will take place again,” Pikal said.

PFA advisor Rully Nere who is a football legend in Indonesia voiced appreciation for the children’s enthusiasm in participating in the two-day selections. "This is an opportunity for children to receive coaching and priming to become professionals, and as such they should seize this opportunity well. Whoever eventually joins PFA must earnestly participate in coaching and training. For those yet to obtain the chance to join PFA, they can look to the future,” Rully said.

In addition to Timika, two other cities, Merauke and Jayapura City will be holding the same talent search. During the second day of selection at Wania Imipi Stadium, PFA Director Wolfgang Pikal was accompanied by nationally licensed coaches who will be conducting training at PFA based in Timika, namely Ardiles Rumbiak, Melky Papare and Kelly Pepuho.
