Build a Sports Complex, Freeport Helps PON XX Papua

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) supports National Sports Week (PON) XX Papua on 2-15 October by building a sports complex in Mimika. Vice President Corporate Communications of PTFI, Riza Pratama explain his party is strongly committed to making PON successful since Papua was appointed as the host in 2013. Besides building a sports complex worth US$ 33 million, PTFI will also help PON Grand Committee in mobilizing equipment for sports matches in the Mimika cluster. Mimika Sports Complex located on Jalan Poros Timika-Sp5, Timika. This complex began construction in 2014 and was completed in 2018.

The sports complex which was built on an area of 12.5 hectares on Jalan Poros Timika-Sp5 cost US$ 33 million or more than Rp 400 billion. This complex is also equipped with indoor and outdoor facilities. This stadium was built in 2014 and was completed in 2018. This sports complex has several supporting facilities and infrastructure such as an indoor stadium, outdoor stadium, and dormitory.

The indoor stadium has a capacity of 5,000 people and is intended for volleyball, basketball, and badminton. Meanwhile, the outdoor stadium has various facilities javelin throwing, long jump, high jump, shot put. Then, there are also short distance runs, middle distances, 400 meters synthetic running track for international standard warm-up/training, short distance running, and 200 meters long jump. The stadium can accommodate 2,000 people in the west stand and 1,300 people in the east stand.

Riza added that a dormitory will also be built which will be divided into two buildings with a capacity of 50 males and females each, as well as for officials. The dormitory is ensured to be equipped with a small gymnasium for sports, a place of worship, and a recreation room. "This is one of PTFI's contributions to participate in developing sports talents from Papua, who can excel at national and international levels," said Riza.
