Celebrate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, Freeport Employees and Residents Clean Ayuka and Tipuka Villages

05 August 2025

Mimika, August 5, 2025 – PT Freeport Indonesia commemorates the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia with various community activities around its operational areas. One such activity is a collaborative cleanup effort with residents of Ayuka Village in the Far East Mimika District and Tipuka Village in the Mimika Timur District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.

“Every year, we hold celebrations and foster togetherness with the community. It’s not just about organizing events, but ensuring they bring benefits and positive impacts for residents. This year, we focus on Ayuka and Tipuka, following similar activities last year in Nayaro Village and in 2023 in Nawaripi Village,” said Arnold Sanadi, Coordinator of the 80th Independence Day Committee for PTFI’s Lowland Operations, after the village cleanup on Friday, August 1, 2025.

He noted that the cleanup involved 165 participants, including adult men and village youth, supported by TNI/Polri personnel stationed in both districts. Local women also contributed by preparing meals for the participants.

PTFI employees and residents also installed red-and-white flags and banners along village roads and homes, as well as painted the village gates, which serve as entry points and symbols of their identity. “We hope this activity strengthens togetherness and synergy to create clean and healthy Ayuka and Tipuka villages,” Arnold said.

He explained that the cleanup is the start of various joint activities with Ayuka and Tipuka residents. Upcoming events on August 6–7, 2025, include sports and arts competitions, social services, education on healthy living for children, and football training by the Papua Football Academy on August 12–13, 2025.

“The highlight will be entertainment for residents, centered at the Tipuka Village Hall Field,” he added.

As the world’s largest integrated copper mining company from upstream to downstream, PTFI joins in celebrating Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day. Throughout August, PTFI organizes various activities to foster nationalism and mutual cooperation at five work locations, from upstream in Papua—including Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana, and Nabire—to downstream in Gresik, East Java, and Jakarta.

In Tembagapura, various competitions and cultural performances are held with Banti Village residents. In Nabire, free cataract surgeries are conducted alongside eye education and checkups for 1,000 schoolchildren, with 500 free eyeglasses provided. In Gresik, activities include blood donation, digital training for local SMEs, and the Nusantara Copper Melody Concert. The culmination is the simultaneous 80th Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony, attended by all employees and contractors at PTFI’s five work locations.
