Coastal Clean UP, PT Freeport Cleans 542 KG of Trash from Mimika Coast

10 June 2023

To commemorate World Environment Day 2023, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) participated in a nationwide Coastal Clean Up on Saturday (10/6/2023). In this action, PTFI deployed at least 255 people from both privatized companies and contractors in collaboration with PTFI's Environmental Division to clean up trash from the coast of Mimika.

"We collected waste both in the land area and some on the coast or in the sea. We collected a total of 542 kilograms of waste," said PT Freeport Indonesia Environment Day Chairperson, Emilia Farida Ubra.

This is the second time PTFI has organized a clean-up. Previously, PTFI had held a waste clean-up in Nabire Regency, the capital of Central Papua, at the peak of World Environment Day commemoration on 5 June.

At the National Coastal Clean Up in the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN), PTFI President Director, Tony Wenas, accompanied the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, to greet and support the PTFI Environmental Division for participating in the Coastal Clean Up.

Within PTFI itself, the peak of World Environment Day festivities will be held from 16 to 18 June at the Eme Neme Yauware Building.

"The activities are in the form of exhibitions and bazaars. Then there is also entertainment, competitions. The competitions are speech competitions for junior high school teachers, TikTok competitions for the general category, colouring competitions for kindergarten level," said Emilia.

In addition, there will be a sharing session with stakeholders from both PTFI management and the local government with the theme 'Beat Plastic Pollution'.

"We hope that all the people of Mimika Regency can be entertained and participate," she hoped.
