Gresik, 20 June 2024 - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) achieved more than 54 safe manhours in its smelter development project inside JIIPE, Gresik.
“This achievement increasingly reinforces Freeport Indonesia’s optimism as it commences smelter operation in June 2024. This success not only reflects our accomplishment in conducting the development, but also serves to establish the highest safety standard at work, inspiring us as we proceed onward,” PTFI Deputy Site Manager for the smelter project, Venta Agustri stated in Gresik, on Thursday.
Venta said this achievement was modestly albeit joyfully celebrated together with smelter workers on Saturday (15/6). During this celebration on achieving 50 million safe manhours, PTFI expressed appreciation and commendation for the employees and contractors who have contributed to this safety achievement.
Since commencement of smelter development in 2021, PTFI has recorded significant milestones, beginning with achievement of one million safe manhours, thereby laying the groundwork for maintaining safety at work. This was subsequently followed with 10 million safe manhours, indicating increased and higher degree of consistency in carrying out the safety procedures that had been established.
“In August of 2023, we attained 25 million safe manhours. This was a tremendous leap forward, demonstrating that a culture of safety has been fully integrated into every aspect of our work,” he asserted.
Head of Gresik Manpower Office Zainul Arifin attended the event to celebrate the PTFI smelter project’s achieving 50 million safe manhours, and delivered an address to the workers. “Achievement of 50 million safe manhours is real evidence of the dedication and commitment demonstrated by all involved in ensuring safety at work. May this continue to inspire us and set a standard for other for other industries in Indonesia," Zainul said.
He also expressed appreciation for the role played by workers and their contribution to achievement of this record. “Their dedication and compliance in following safety procedures is the key to PTFI’s success,” the Manpower Office Head averred.
