14 November 2025
Timika, November 14, 2025 – Coinciding with Health Day, November 12, 2025, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) handed over independent kitchen facilities and two oxygen concentrators to Waa Banti Hospital, located in the highlands of Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province, to strengthen services for three villages: Banti, Tsinga, and Arwanop.
"PTFI's social investment in health continues to be the company's long-term commitment to support the quality of life of the Mimika and Papua communities towards better health. Health is an important pillar in nation building. We believe that healthy communities will improve their quality of life," said Director and Executive Vice President of Sustainable Development PTFI, Claus Wamafma in Timika, Friday.
PTFI, Claus continued, partners with the Mimika District Government in improving the health and quality of life of communities in the Mimika highlands, especially those living in PTFI's mining operational areas. "The operation of the independent kitchen and two oxygen concentrator devices at Waa Banti Hospital is expected to provide stimulus for patient recovery and health, and even provide education to surrounding communities regarding nutritional fulfillment and body health," he said.
The handover of facilities to Waa Banti Hospital was symbolically delivered by PTFI's Community Health Development (CHD) Manager Daniel Perwira and received by Waa Banti Hospital Director dr. Anita Sanjaya. This activity was also witnessed by PTFI representatives and hospital health workers.
To support the independent public kitchen, PTFI donated kitchen equipment, including electric stoves, ovens, steamer cooking utensils, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for cooking. PTFI, in collaboration with PT Pangan Sari Utama (PSU), facilitated 10 kitchen workers at Waa Banti Hospital to participate in equipment operation training. In addition, Waa Banti Hospital kitchen workers will receive knowledge of nutritious food cooking techniques as knowledge provision and standards for food presentation to patients.
In 2022, Freeport handed over an ambulance as part of the reconstruction of Waa Banti Hospital. Then in November 2023, PTFI handed over an operational vehicle to support hospital services.
Waa Banti Hospital Director dr. Anita Sanjaya appreciated the collaboration between PTFI and the Mimika District Health Office through the Amendment to the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) for Waa Banti Hospital for 2025, which was agreed upon at the end of 2024. Through this agreement, health services and hospital facilities continue to be strengthened.
She stated that health services and facilities are important and available in the Mimika highland areas. With the availability of an independent kitchen at Waa Banti Hospital, it is expected to meet the nutritional needs of patients previously supplied from PTFI's employee kitchen in Tembagapura.
"We are optimistic that the hospital's subsequent operations can run independently and sustainably," she said.
Anita added that the oxygen concentrator equipment is also very important. "With this facility, it can ensure the availability of oxygen for patients independently and sustainably without depending on the distribution of oxygen cylinders, which is sometimes constrained by stock limitations," said dr. Anita.
Waa Banti Hospital provides curative health services in the form of outpatient and inpatient care, strengthened by health workers from the Community Health Center (Puskesmas) stationed at Pos Banti. More than 82 officers focus on providing services in general poly clinics, pharmacy, maternity and child health, as well as emergency services. The hospital officially began operations on September 15, 2023. Waa Banti Hospital has served more than 22,580 patients to date and has become a health service center for communities residing in the three highland villages of Mimika.
