Freeport Hopeful 4 Tons of Foodstuff Assistance Will Bring Relief to Amar and Atuka Residents

On 5 January 20221, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) delivered 4 tons of goods in humanitarian relief to victims of the natural disaster occurring in the village of Kampung Atuka, Mimika Tengah District and three villages in Amar District, Mimika Regency, in sympathy and concern.

The assistance was personally presented by PTFI Vice President of Sustainable Development Nathan Kum to the head of Mimika Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Yosias Lossu, on Wednesday (12/1/2022) at the BPBD Mimika offices on Jl. Charitas SP 2, Timika.

The humanitarian assistance from PTFI took the form of foodstuffs, specifically 2.5 tons of rice, 1.25 tons of sugar, 20 jerrycans of cooking oil totalling 360 liters, 20 cartons of coffee, 20 cartons of tea, 20 cartons of milk cans, and 150 cartons of instant foods, all of which came to around 4 tons, worth Rp 120 million rupiahs.

"This natural disaster has brought grief and despair as well as material loss to residents of Amar District, Kampung Atuka and surroundings. As such PT Freeport Indonesia has endeavored to act in synergy with Mimika Regency BPBD to provide relief and assistance to the affected residents,” Nathan Kum stated in a press release received by seputarpapua.com on Friday (14/1/2022).

Nathan Kum added, PTFI consistently works in conjunction with the Mimika regency government to provide humanitarian aid. PTFI will not act on its own and will always coordinate with the local government. As a company operating in the Mimika Regency area, the PTFI big family conveys its deepest sympathy to the residents of Amar District and Atuka over the recent disaster. “We are hopeful this assistance will bring them some relief in bearing their misfortune and adversity,” Nathan Kum said.

Meanwhile the head of BPBD Mimika, Yosias Lossu voiced his appreciation of the support demonstrated by PTFI in providing relief for the residents affected by the disaster. "On behalf of the government, I would like to thank PT Freeport Indonesia for their assistance in providing relief in the form of foodstuffs for the residents of Amar and Atuka, may God bless the Freeport company," Yosias said.
