21 August 2024

Mimika, August 21, 2024 – PT Freeport Indonesia appreciates Mitra Masyarakat Hospital (RSMM) for providing services to more than 2.7 million patients during its 25 years of operation in Mimika. RSMM is owned by the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK), which manages partnership funds from PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI).

"We express our highest appreciation to RSMM for serving 2.7 million patients. This is extraordinary," said Nathan Kum, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Community Development at PTFI, in his speech during the 25th Anniversary celebration at the Hospital Hall, SP-5 Mimika Regency, on Tuesday (20/8).

He stated that PTFI will continue to support health programs that have a direct impact on the community. He also invited RSMM's leadership, staff, and employees to jointly manage this hospital so that it can continue to provide the best service to the community, especially to the seven tribes: Amungme, Kamoro, Moni, Damal, Dani, Nduga, and Ekari.

Nathan said that PTFI's contributions to healthcare through RSMM via YPMAK include financing medical treatment for all indigenous Papuan patients from the seven tribes who are not covered by BPJS (Indonesia's national health insurance). YPMAK also covers operational costs in hospital management, including RSMM's infrastructure maintenance costs each year. Over time, PTFI through YPMAK has also accommodated the need for patient evacuation from the seven tribes who require referrals to advanced hospitals if they don't have BPJS.

Representing the Amungme Community Leaders and also as the Chairman of the Amungme Tribal Customary Council (LEMASA), Stingal Johny Beanal expressed his gratitude for the services provided by RSMM to the seven tribes free of charge. "Happy 25th anniversary to RSMM. We, the community and the Amungme community's customary institution (LEMASA), are grateful and thankful to RSMM, YCTP, YPMAK, and Freeport for serving the health needs of the Amungme, Kamoro, and five related tribes," he said.

Stingal said that Lemasa, together with the Amungme community, will continue to support Freeport's programs through YPMAK. "The health services at RSMM are very beneficial for the seven tribes because we receive top priority in receiving health services at this hospital. We hope RSMM will become even better in its new age," he said.
