Freeport Indonesia Commemorates National OHS Month 2025, Emphasizes Safe Work Commitment

11 January 2025

Mimika, January 11, 2025 - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) officially launched the series of activities for the National Occupational Health and Safety Month (BK3N) 2025 at the Light Industrial Park, Mile Post 32, Kuala Kencana, on Friday (1/10). Hundreds of employees in PTFI's highland operations area in Tembagapura joined virtually.

Acting Chief Mining Engineer & Senior Vice President Operation Maintenance of PTFI, Rustiarso Rianto, stated that the theme for BK3N 2025 is "Strengthening Human Resource Capacity in Supporting the Implementation of Mining Safety Management System (SMKP) to Increase Productivity." This highlights the importance of enhancing human resource competencies as a key element in implementing an effective safety management system.

"This year's theme is highly relevant to the company's operational needs and emphasizes the important role of workers and partners in fostering an OHS culture," said Rustiarso.

He mentioned that PTFI's Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) in 2024 showed better safety performance compared to the previous year. However, this achievement challenges PTFI not to become complacent.

"Each of us has an important role in determining appropriate preventive measures against any potential work hazards that we, our colleagues, and others may encounter. Therefore, behavioral change is crucial to strengthen the safety culture and must be applied to all employees," he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Department of Manpower, Transmigration, Energy and Mineral Resources of Central Papua Province, Gunawan Iskandar, in his remarks emphasized the importance of implementing OHS regulations and culture with discipline in the workplace.

"Implementing occupational health and safety culture is an important investment in creating a safe work environment while maintaining business sustainability," said Gunawan.

The Chairman of PTFI's BK3N 2025 Committee, Catur Budiyanto, said that the 2025 BK3N commemoration at PTFI will last for one and a half months with three programs: Strategic Program; implementation of safety programs related to interaction between moving equipment and workers, and safety initiatives from each division. Promotive Program; safety campaigns, Occupational Disease Prevention campaigns, and OHS-related competitions. Implementation Program; educational seminars and training related to physical and mental health, including Women's Health Awareness to provide information about specific health issues for female workers.

Catur invited all PTFI employees, work partners, and stakeholders to actively participate in every organized activity. "Occupational health and safety is our shared responsibility. With the spirit of 'Work Safely, Produce Greatly,' let's make BK3N 2025 successful through collaboration and high commitment," said this Grasberg Block Caving (GBC) Production Manager of PTFI.
