15 May 2025

Timika, May 15, 2025 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) presented 6,000 doses of Dengue Fever Vaccine (DBD) worth Rp2.65 billion to the Mimika Regency Government. PTFI's Director & Executive Vice President (EVP) of Sustainable Development, Claus Wamafma, symbolically handed over the dengue vaccine to Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob at the Kwamki Baru Health Center, Timika, on Saturday (5/10).

"As a partner of the Mimika Regency Government, we continue to provide support in healthcare and other fields. Praise be to God, PT Freeport Indonesia has delivered 6,000 doses of Qdenga vaccine as part of preventive efforts against dengue fever," said Claus in his speech.

He stated that PTFI continues various efforts to realize good public health in Mimika. PTFI will continue to be part of the Mimika Regency Government's major work to make the Mimika community better and healthier and continue supporting the government to improve the welfare of the Mimika Regency. "We are grateful to have the opportunity to continue this health effort together, hopefully, what we do brings blessings to all," he said.

The Qdenga vaccine can be given to people ranging from 6 to 45 years of age living in dengueendemic areas. To get maximum protection, the Qdenga vaccine needs to be administered with two injections, with a three-month interval between the first and second injections. This Qdenga vaccine has been approved by the government through the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM).

Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob in his speech expressed appreciation for the support provided by PTFI. "On behalf of the Mimika Regency Government, we thank and give our highest appreciation for the real contribution of PTFI in providing support for health services for the people in Papua, especially Mimika," he said.

He said that health is the main foundation. Healthy communities mean people can go to school, become smart, and be productive. He also emphasized that the Mimika Regency Government cannot build public health alone and needs more collaboration with stakeholders to develop this regency in their own ways.

"We must continue to work together hand in hand to build good health in Mimika Regency so that people can move toward the Gerbang Emas Timika vision. That is, the Movement for Fair and Prosperous Community Economic Revival," said the Regent.

Based on Mimika Health Department data, 1,200 cases of dengue disease were detected and reported in 2024. As an aspect of disease prevention, this collaboration between PTFI and the Mimika Regency Government is a very positive step to ensure a healthy Mimika community, free from dengue fever.

Meanwhile, PTFI also continues to support the dengue-free campaign in PTFI's work area. Among them are conducting socialization with employees to routinely clean mosquito nests, prevent mosquito bites, and get vaccinated as preventive measures. PTFI actively conducts socialization about dengue vaccination and provides vaccination to workers and their families.

"Freeport's support in the health sector also demonstrates the Company's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals program number 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all people of all ages," Claus said.
