Freeport Indonesia Employees Exercise Their Voting Rights in 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections

Timika, November 27, 2024 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) employees at the Jobsite area exercised their voting rights on Wednesday in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections (Pilkada) to elect the Regent and Deputy Regent of Mimika, as well as the Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Papua.

With PTFI's Jobsite area being designated as a Special Location (Loksus) for voting by the General Elections Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI), the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections could take place in PTFI's operational area in Mimika Regency, Central Papua. A total of 10,451 PTFI employees and community members were registered as permanent voters in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections.

"PTFI supports the achievement of effective, efficient, transparent, accountable, and accessible Regional Elections, particularly in PTFI's operational area in Mimika. We continue to coordinate with the Mimika Regional Election Commission (KPUD), District Election Committee (PPD), and Voting Committee (PPS), from providing Special Polling Stations at the Jobsite to returning ballot boxes from all Special Polling Stations for vote counting recapitulation at the Tembagapura District level in Timika," said PTFI Vice President of Government Relations Lenny Josephina.

She said PTFI was involved in organizing the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections by accommodating the logistical needs of ballot boxes with special security. All logistical requirements for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections voting were safely handled in accordance with applicable regulations.

Special voting locations in the PTFI area include 23 Polling Stations (TPS) spread across 14 locations in the Highlands, 8 in the Lowlands area, and 1 in the Portsite area.

"Regarding employees working on election day, the company allocated one hour between 07:00 and 13:00 Eastern Indonesia Time for each employee to use their voting rights at designated polling stations in their respective work areas. After voting for Regent and Governor candidates, employees safely returned to their workplaces," she said.

PTFI Manpower Management Division employee Theresia Narkime, who voted in the Lowland area, said she was able to leave her workplace to participate in voting at TPS 904 Multipurpose Kuala Kencana. "We workers were given time to participate in electing regional heads at designated polling stations. Our supervisors allowed us to cast our votes, and we were able to participate peacefully in the election at our workplace," said Theresia.

Highest Polling Station in Indonesia

A total of 475 PTFI employees were registered in the Permanent Voter List (DPT) to exercise their voting rights in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections at TPS 901, located in the Grasberg area, Tembagapura district. This location is also the highest polling station in Indonesia, situated at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level. G
