Jakarta, 17 March 2026 – Employees of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) hosted a joint iftar (breaking of the fast) for 700 orphaned and underprivileged children in Jakarta and Gresik, with the event joined virtually by employees at the operational areas of Kuala Kencana and Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.
“The presence of these orphaned and underprivileged children among us brings positive energy and a deep sense of gratitude for being able to give back to others. This is fully aligned with our company values, particularly the values of Respect and Commitment toward the communities and surroundings of PTFI — in Kuala Kencana, Tembagapura, Jakarta, and Gresik,” said PTFI President Director Tony Wenas in Jakarta, Thursday (3/12).
The 700 orphaned and underprivileged children in attendance came from various foundations. In Jakarta, 500 children from 11 foundations across Greater Jakarta took part, including the Papua Muslim Community. In Gresik, 200 children from foundations near the smelter area participated. In addition to the iftar, the event featured games, welfare packages, and gifts funded through donations from PTFI employees across the four work areas.
“We hope that the support we provide today can serve as motivation for our younger brothers and sisters to keep studying and to reach for their dreams as high as the sky,” said Tony.
PTFI Al Ikhlas Taklim Council (MTAI) Chairperson Arif Latief explained that the event was conceived and carried out by PTFI employees with full company support. Employees in Jakarta and Gresik collaborated with the Muslim Community Foundation (YMM) in Tembagapura and donors to make the event a success.
“PTFI’s existence must always bring benefits to all stakeholders. This event is proof that PTFI employees can collaborate and work in synergy — not only in professional matters but also in social activities,” he said.
In Jakarta, the event was further enlivened by a performance from children’s storyteller Kak Awam Prakoso, who delivered educational stories in an expressive and interactive manner, followed by various games and competitions that the children joined with great enthusiasm. The event was also attended by PTFI management and 135 employees. In Gresik, children from foundations in Manyar, Kebomas, and Bungah sub-districts also took part in the program with great energy.
