TIMIKA, 21 November 2024 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) supports the 2024 Central Papua Soeratin Cup U-15 Football Tournament by preparing the Mimika Sport Complex (MSC) facilities throughout the tournament from November 20-24.
"Of course, it is a pride for Freeport Indonesia that the MSC facilities we built with international standards as part of our social investment in sports can provide the broadest benefits for Central Papua children who will compete in this Central Papua Soeratin Cup U-15," said Director & EVP Sustainable Development PTFI, Claus Wamafma after the opening of the 2024 Central Papua Soeratin Cup U-15 Football Tournament at MSC Timika, Wednesday (11/20).
MSC has facilities including an International standard Athletics Field (World Athletics Class 2), a natural grass football field measuring 100m x 54m, a synthetic grass football field measuring 100m x 54m, an indoor hall for basketball, badminton, volleyball, and gymnasium, as well as an athlete dormitory with a capacity of 80 people.
MSC was built from 2014 - 2016 on a 12-hectare area on land owned by the Mimika Regional Government. MSC is the homebase of the Papua Football Academy (PFA), a football academy for Papuan children. PFA is an academy fully supported by PTFI.
"MSC was also one of the venues for the successful 2021 Papua PON and has become a venue for tournaments in Timika including this Soeratin U-15 Football Tournament," he said.
The Acting Technical Director of the Central Papua PSSI Provincial Association, M. Jaelani Saputra, said that in the Soeratin Cup Football Tournament in Mimika, PSSI is collaborating with Freeport Indonesia and the Mimika PSSI District Association as the Organizing Committee. "We hope that this inaugural Soeratin Cup in Central Papua can be a good start for future regular competition implementations," he said.
Eight participating teams will join this tournament, namely Papua Football Academy, Persemi Mimika, Kuala Kencana Fans Club, Aruka FC, SSB Elang, SSB Timika Putra, SSB Pendekar Saireri and SSB Konika. The winner and runner-up will compete for the championship, and will then have the right to represent Central Papua in the PSSI U15 Soeratin Cup at the National level, which is planned to be held in December in Jogjakarta.
The Soeratin Cup Tournament is the largest & oldest youth tournament organized by PSSI throughout Indonesia to find young player talents. The name Soeratin is taken from PSSI's founding figure named Ir. Soeratin Sosrosoegondo. The Soeratin Cup was first held in 1965.
