Freeport Sends EP & R Team to Help Evacuate Natural Disaster Victims in Cianjur

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) sent an Emergency Preparedness and Response (EP&R) Team to the disaster site in Cianjur Regency, West Java Province. This is to fulfill a request from the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for mining companies to help the victims of the natural earthquake disaster that occurred in Cianjur on Monday, 21 November 2022.

A total of 5 personnel from the disaster response team departed to Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon (23/2/2022) using an Airfast Indonesia flight from Mozes Kilangin Airport, Timika, led by Frits Worabay. These 5 personnel consist of 3 EP&R team personnel and 2 UGMR or Underground Mine Rescue team personnel. These PTFI delegates specialize in search & rescue. Meanwhile, 2 additional personnel from ISOS Jakarta specialized in Paramedic capabilities.

Manager of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), Lowland Periyadi stated, before going to the disaster site in Cianjur, 2 medical personnels will join the Team from SOS Jakarta, and will continue their journey to Cianjur to coordinate with other teams under the command of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. "PTFI management through the Head of Mining Engineering has approved the departure of PTFI's emergency response team to Cianjur Regency, West Java," said Periyadi.

According to Periyadi, in the last 15 years, PTFI has continuously supported to rescue and evacuate natural disaster victims that have occurred in several regions in Indonesia, including support for the evacuation process for transportation accidents in several areas in Papua. "Representing the Management and all employees of PT Freeport Indonesia, we express our deepest condolences to the people of Cianjur Regency, who are experiencing a disaster," concluded Periyadi.

Meanwhile, EP&R Lowland Superintendent, Eddy Lesnussa stated that PTFI's disaster response team departed by carrying complete equipment for disaster management, including Medical Bag Complete, Tents, First Aid Kits, Thermal Imaging Cameras, Gas Detectors, GPS Satellites, Extrication Batteries, and Scope Stretchers.

As soon as the team arrived at their destination, they will report and coordinate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for the task distribution in the field. "PTFI's disaster response team brought rescue and evacuation equipment as well as several other supporting equipment. All of this equipment will support PTFI's disaster response team in evacuating victims at the disaster site in Cianjur," said Eddy.

PTFI's disaster response team who departed had experience with previous disaster management teams that occurred in Padang, Yogyakarta, Lombok, Palu, and Sentani, and had been involved with the disaster evacuation team for plane and helicopter crashes in Papua, some time ago.
