In the Spirit of Christmas 2022 Freeport Provides 56,36 Tons of Staple Food plus Supporting Facilities to Communities in Operational Areas

As is customarily done every year at Christmas, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) donates basic food items and supporting facilities to the communities residing in the company’s operational areas to celebrate Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023. 

Manager Community Liaison Officer (CLO) PTFI, Marthinus Badii, revealed that in the spirit of Christmas 2022, PTFI through its Community Development Division, once again showed its generosity and love by providing 56.36 tons of main staple goods.

The basic food assistance had already been distributed in the company’s operational areas in the highlands and lowlands. In the highlands the donation went to the village populations of Waa Banti, Aroanop, Tsinga, Kimbeli, Opitawak, Hoya and Jila. While in the lowlands it was distributed to the communities of 5 DASKAM Villages and three coastal villages.

“All the donations have already been delivered to the above mentioned villages including 30 churches and Amungme and Kamoro public figures. We carried out the distributions on December 9th until December 24th 2022,” said Badii to salampapua.com.

Badii added that since early December 2022 PTFI has been providing 34 buses to help two way transportation to communities of Waa-Banti and Aroanop to enable them to do their shopping in Timika.

In addition PTFI also provided assistance in the form of 20 open dry vehicles to transport pigs and fuel from community-owned land which will be used for stone burning rituals for Christmas 2022, and also 5 containers to transport food belonging to the communities.

“In the latter case PTFI worked in coordination with the security forces of TNI-Polri to ensure security to the vehicles riding from Timika to the highland areas,” he said.

At the same time, Group Leader Community Infrastructure PTFI, Rolly Nelwan, explained that all transportation facilities were the response of PTFI to proposals made by the Christmas Organizing Committee in the area,

"Every year Banti 1, Banti 2, Opitawak, and Kimbeli are celebrating Christmas together. This 2022 the committee was chaired by Julianus Janampa (a leading figure from Banti 2, Ed,), In Early December 2022 the committee made a proposal to PTFI to help provide transportation facilities to which PTFI agreed . They had plans to celebrate Christmas on December 25 in Opitawak Village and New Year January 1,2023 in Banti.,” Rolly said.

As is known, PTFI has also supported with the installation of a 550 KVA electricity generator to light up Banti 1,2 and Opitawak, in addition to an 11 KVA generator to illuminate Kimbeli area in cooperation with the Eland Task Force and Yonif 405.SK Pambobvtnas Task Force.
