19 December 2024

Timika, December 19, 2024 – The Board of Trustees of the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK) for the 2024-2029 period, as the manager of PT Freeport Indonesia's (PTFI) partnership fund, was officially sworn in at the Multipurpose Building, Kuala Kencana, Wednesday (12/18).

PTFI Director & EVP Sustainable Development Claus Wamafma said PTFI entrusts YPMAK as one of the foundations managing social investment funds from PTFI for the Amungme and Kamoro communities. The managed funds are then distributed by the foundation in the form of sustainable programs in health, education, economy, and infrastructure based in villages around PTFI's operational area and Mimika Regency. Over the next 5 years through social investment funds, PTFI will distribute approximately Rp4 trillion to YPMAK.

"As PTFI's frontline in partnering with Papuan communities, especially the Amungme and Kamoro tribes as well as 5 related tribes and other Papuans, YPMAK's active participation plays a strategic role in providing long-term benefits while improving resilience and welfare for communities around PTFI's operational area," said Claus.

Therefore, he continued, PTFI collaborates with the Mimika Regency Government, fully supporting YPMAK's management in the 2024-2029 period along with all YPMAK employees so they can carry out their duties and responsibilities to ensure sustainable community empowerment programs for the Amungme and Kamoro communities can be implemented.

Acting Mimika Regent Valentinus S. Sumito, who attended this event, expressed appreciation to PTFI and YPMAK for their contribution to sustainable community development efforts in Mimika.

"Strategic empowerment programs that have been and will continue to be carried out by PTFI and YPMAK have shown real contributions in efforts to develop the Human Development Index (HDI) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Mimika Regency," he said.

Valentinus also expressed his support for collaboration efforts between the Mimika regency government with PTFI and YPMAK to be realized through program synergy and community activities in villages.

YPMAK Board Chairman for the 2024-2029 period, Leonardus Tumuka, in his remarks said he would carry out duties and responsibilities professionally to achieve YPMAK's vision as a professional and independent donor foundation in empowering the Amungme, Kamoro, 5 related tribes, and other Papuan communities.

"Thank you to the YPMAK Board Chairman for the 2019-2024 Period, Vebian Magal, and all staff for their dedication and good cooperation so far. Programs and activities from the previous period will be maintained, and those that have not been achieved according to the expectations of YPMAK's Trustees, PTFI, and Mimika Regional Government will be noted by our team for attention so they can be achieved during our leadership period," said Leonardus.
