According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, President Joko Widodo also discussed and paid attention to the football athletes’ development in Papua.

Menpora stated that President Jokowi wanted more football talents to emerge from Papua. To that end, the President has assigned PT Freeport Indonesia to build Football Schools in Jayapura and Timika. "He has special attention for football in Papua, indeed there has been a directive to Mr. Freeport's president director, Tony Wenas to create a Football School for searching for talents in Papua," said Minister of Youth and Sports Amali to the media crew at the Ministry Office, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (23/23/2020). 6/2022). "Well, this is a possibility that I heard that, if not in July or August, there will be the launching of a football academy in Papua by PT Freeport Indonesia,". "The players must be early childhood of Papuan in Timika and Jayapura. He will start it as the preparations are underway," he explained.

Apart from that, there is another reason that football is the most popular sport in Papua. So far, many quality footballers have been born in Papua. "He asked, and I said that I had coordinated with the President Director because the President hopes that good talents will be born for sports from Papua. That's also why football is a sport that invites very large public interest in Papua. Then, he specifically encourages the acceleration of football in Papua," he stated.
