Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Appreciates Support From Freeport Indonesia During Asmat Pokman Festival 2024

Agats, Asmat 10 Oktober 2024 – During the 37Th Asmat Pokman Festival (FAP) 2024, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is supporting the participating artisans with distribution of 520 healthy and nutritious food packs. This has elicited direct response and appreciation from Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Sandiaga Uno.

Thanks to PT Freeport Indonesia for this support,” Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Sandiaga Uno conveyed after attending the Asmat Pokman Festival (FAP) 2024 in Asmat, on Tuesday (8/10).

The Minister went on to express appreciation for all entities engaged in supporting development of tourism and creative economy in South Papua, among others through the 37th Asmat Pokman Festival 2024. This festival is taking place at the Yos Sudarso Common in Agats, Asmat Regency, South Papua Province, from 7 through 11 October 2024.

The festival features a variety of activities, including the Asmat Cultural Carnival, Asmat Body Painting, Watercraft Maneuvers on Asuwets River, a carving and weaving exhibition, a Bakau/ Mangrove Trip, an Artworks Auction, and others. The festival was organized by Asmat Diocese, with full support provided by the Asmat Regency government.

PTFI Executive Vice President (EVP) for Technical Services Chris Zimmer symbolically presented the company’s assistance of nutritious food packs for artisans to Agats Bishop Mgr. Aloysius Murwito at the Agats Diocese Offices on Tuesday (8/10/2024).

“PTFI is committed to supporting cultural conservation, among others through offering support for the Asmat Cultural Festival. “We hope the FAP will provide a vessel for young artisans and carvers to showcase their talents and skills,” Chris said.

Chris said the assistance provided by the company in the form of nutritious foods is not without reason, given the commitment made to boost the health and wellbeing of the Papuan population. PTFI is confident that through healthy and nutritious meals, all individuals are enabled to be creative and ensure their own wellbeing, as well as that of their families and communities, for Papua.

Asmat Bishop Mgr. Aloysius Murwito conveyed his pleasure and appreciation for the support from PTFI for Asmat artisans. The assistance provided will be highly beneficial for the artisans. The food packs will be subsequently prepared into nutritious meals by the FAP Meal Services Section and distributed to the artisans, carvers, and weavers participating in the FAP.
