The Papua Football Papua Academy (PFA) which receives sponsorship from PT Freeport Indonesia gained valuable experience during their tour of Bali by undergoing four test matches.

"PFA decided to go to Bali in order to seek experience and match practice  opponents we considered to be of better quality than the SSSB Team in Timika,” PFA Academy Director and former assistant coach of the Indonesian National Team, Wolfgang Pikal, said in an official statement on Tuesday.

Since its inauguration by President Joke Widodo last August 1, PFA, which consists of 30 selected players in Papua, has undergone soccer training camp as well as a formal learning process at the Mimika Sport Complex, in Timika.

For ten days in Bali until Monday (11.7) PFA tried to show is capabilities by facing a team from Bali at Yoga Perkanthi Field in Jembaran on Saturday (10/30). In the first match PFA won 5-3 SSB Yoga Perkanthi and in the second match ended in a draw 0-0 against Bintang Bali FC,

In the PFA’s third trial march in Bali, the match moved to the Ababa’s Field, Badung Regency, Bali, Thursday (11/3) against Pespa Padang Sanbian, in that match PFA had to accept a 0-1 defeat.

The last test match was against Bali United U14 at Yoga Perkanthi Field on Sunday (11/6). The PFA players learned a lot when they had to lose 0-3.

From the four trial matches, Wolfgang Pikal admitted that the coaches saw a lot of things that were obtained from the performances of the PFA players. In addition to team organization that still needs improvement, the mentality of competing also was given high attention.

“Before joining PFA not many players had participated in competitions while they were still in their respective areas. We noticed a significant influence when they tried out in Bali. Mental factors had affected their technical and tactical performances in matches, “Wolfgang explained.

He hopes that in future the PFA players will perform better when they play against teams of equal strength and better quality.

“The arrival of the Papua Football Academy in Bali is very good, After practicing for 3 months in Timika, the kids need stronger trial opponents, Not to win but how to put in practice what they have learned during their training,” said the national football legend who was also an advisor to the PFA, Rully Nere.

In addition to honing skills in friendly matches in Bali, routine activities that are usually carried out while at the Mimika Sport Complex are still continuing, Such as the formal education learning process for PFA students under the Mimika Regency Education Office.

The opportunity to be in Bali is also used by PFA management to give the kids time to refresh in several locations and get to know the culture outside Papua and play a role in the cleaning up of various garbage and dirt on Jimbaran beach.

“I am happy to be able to visit Bali with the PFA family to train and to compete, I will correct the faults I made during the match in Bali especially against Bali United U14, They are difficult opponents to play,” said Valentino Santo Wagiu, the player who passed the Merauke selection.
