The Talent Program is one of PT Freeport Indonesia’s commitments to empower and to develop the Papua community in many aspects of life including the world of sport.

In its scouting efforts for soccer talents, the Papua Football Academy has involved a number of soccer authorities one of which used to be a former assistant coach of Indonesia’s National Soccer Team and originally from Austria, Wolfgang Pikal, who will be appointed as the Director of the Academy.

In his effort to find the best pearls for the Papuan football club through the PFA program. Wolfgang Pikal will be assisted by former Persemi Mimika coach Ardiles Rumbiak who will assume the role of head coach. He will in his tasks be supported by two native Papuan Assistant coaches, Ardus Kelly Pepeho and Melky Amesius Papare.

Kota Timika will be the starting point for the talent search for the Papua Football Academy. Thereafter PFA will also be visiting other cities like Marauke and Jayapura in the first year of the academy’s operation.

"Timika youth will be absolutely happy about getting the opportunity  to pursue the art of paying football and at the same time being schooled and live in the dormitory,” said Pikal.

Wolfgang Pikal said the success of PON XX Papua has been very influential in encouraging interest in sport in Timika. The enthusiasm among the younger population for soccer is fully understood by Ardies Rumbiak as PFA head trainer. “I have been living in Tembagapura since I was four years old. I have once been coaching Persemi Mimika at League 3. So. I do fully understand why children in Timika have so much interest in soccer,” said Ardiles who has also once coached Belitong FC.
