PFA, the Best Generation of Papuan Football

02 July 2023

Persipura Jayapura's senior player, Ricardo Salampessy, admitted the early childhood development that is carried out by PT. Freeport Indonesia, through the Papua Football Academy (PFA), will become a 'factory' for potential Papuan players in the future.

Because according to Ricardo, the players who are fostered through the PFA are the chosen players from the land of Papua. So, those who join the PFA will later become reliable candidates of Papuan footballers.

Moreover, players who join the PFA will be trained by a line of coaches who have pocketed the A standard license from the AFC. In addition, players also get training programs with very adequate facilities. In fact, PFA is predicted to be the best football training center in the country. "PFA is an incredibly good project, if everything goes well and is sustainable, it will be the best generation of Papuan footballers in the future," said Ricardo Salampessy to Cenderawasih Pos, Friday (30/6).

Ricardo is also one of the coaches involved in selecting players for the second generation in Jayapura City. He hopes PFA will always conduct scouting throughout the land of Papua every year.

The former football star at the PON 2004 (the National Sports Week) also sees the candidate players participating in the selection in the second batch had an increase from the previous batch. "I see an increase in the quality and also the posture of the second batch of finalists and they are very talented from every position," he concluded.

As information, for the second batch, the PFA selection team conducted scouting in 7 regencies/cities. In the near future, 30 players as new students for the second batch will be announced soon.
