13 December 2021

Papua Taruna Boarding School (SATP) held a Joint Christmas and Parents Day to end the odd semester of 2021-2022 school year, Thursday (2/12/2021) in SATP, Kutilang SP4 Street, Wonosari Jaya Village, Wania District, Mimika Regency, Papua. SATP is owned by Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK) as the management of partnership fund from PT. Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and managed by Lokon Education Foundation (YPL). The event was attended by more than a thousand students, teachers, dormitory supervisors, and invitees.

In worship, Pastor Paul Maniagasi brings a Christmas devotional from Jesus’ parable of the “Good Samaritan”. The story teaches that God’s people need to give themselves by practicing true acts of love. Caring for each other and tying the ties of brotherhood. “Let us see from God’s ‘glasses’. God has allowed children to be in here (SATP), the service is in our hands. We are saving thousands of futures for Papua. Let us do our jobs for God and not for seen by humans. Behind these little children, there is a service that we do,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Vice President Community Relations and Human Rights of PTFI, Arnold Kayame said more than a thousand children who live in SATP are the next future leaders for the region, state, and nation. He asked teachers and dormitory supervisors to educate and take care of these Mimika children as their children. “They are the future of this regency. Maybe later they can be a regent or governor. God has given them. Let us prepare these children well based on a joint Christmas theme: The Love of Christ That Moves Brotherhood. Educate children not only to be smart but also to have good characters," he said.

He said teachers in school and parents at home are important figures in children’s life. Both roles are complete each other so children can grow and develop as smart and strong people who have good characters. He also asked SATP to fix everything that happened in the past so that children can be taught in polite and dignified ways.

“Those children in here are the chosen children to study, be nurtured, and mentored here. The foundation takes the parents’ roles when in school. The presence of this school is to complete parents’ roles, completing each other. Cultivate learning values that later will be useful for children’s future. They already got good values from the school, dormitory, bring those values to the home and show the result of your study. Respect parents and listen to all of their advice,” he said.

Deputy Director of Program at YPMAK, Nur Ihfa Karupukaro left a message so when they go through the Christmas and New Year holidays in the home they can take care of their health and go back to school in 2022. She also reminded children to live in the orderly following as applied in the dormitory. “The Love of Christ that Move Brotherhood among children is well nurtured. Tomorrow they will go back to their parents to enjoy the holiday, take care of your health so you can go back to school in 2022 in a healthy condition. Apply the rules in the dormitory in the home and show that you are a good kid. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” she said.

Head of Representatives of YPL, Andreas Ndityomas expressed his gratitude to Freeport and YPMAK for trusting them in nurturing more than a thousand children in SATP. He considered that education is a way that must be done by children to go to a bright future. His party as a partner that has been trusted will nurture and educate them as well as possible. “Thousand children, thousand future for our beloved land, Papua. There is still some lack that we need to fix through all parties’ support. Education is a civilization bridge that we believe in, grace and bounty, as well as multiple blessings from God, will be passed down to today’s generation and future generations. Thank you for trusting Lokon Education Foundation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lemasko Representative, Thomas Mutaweyau advised the children to live life in the dormitory as well as possible, as his life experience was always living in a dormitory while attending school and lectures. The benefits of living in a dormitory will train children to be disciplined to face the future. "This is the place where we learn, we are formed. Coming from villages in the mountains and the coast, we gather for a brighter future. My experience was in elementary and middle school in the Kaokonao dormitory. Later you will miss the dormitory."

After the formal event, it was continued with games activities which were divided per Elementary School, Junior High School, and SATP classes. After that the hospitality and the presentation of gifts. The event was also attended by the Vice President of Community Development who is also the Chairman of YPMAK's Board of Trustees Nathan Kum, YPMAK Supervisor, Samuel Rorimpandey, Head of Education Division Fransiskus Wanmang, Head of Public Relations Division, Feri Uamang, Deputy of Education Program, Onny Wiranda and other invitees from PT Freeport Indonesia and YPMAK and other invitees.
