PT Freeport Indonesia Delivers Two Tons of Assistance to Puncak in Early Emergency Response

24 July 2023

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has delivered two tons of foodstuffs in early emergency response assistance to local residents suffering from drought in three districts in Puncak Regency, Central Papua Province.

In a press release sent to ANTARA in Timika on Wednesday, PTFI Director and EVP for Sustainable Development, Claus Wamafma said the three districts hit by drought are Agandugume, Lambewi and Oneri. "Freeport has responded swiftly to a directive from the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Social Affairs regarding the disinter befalling our brothers and sister in Puncak Regency,” he said.

Claus said  PTFI delivered assistance in the form of two tons of foodstuffs from available supplies in the company’s storerooms as an early response. “Two tons of foodstuffs were distributed through the Disaster Assistance Transit Command Post in Pasar Damai, in response to a directive from the Social Affairs Ministry for residents to be aided,” he said.

He said the districts of Agandugume, Lambewi and Oneri in Puncak Regency, Central Papua were hit by extreme drought in July 2023, bringing about losses for the local communities. “As such, in humanitarian response PTFI took early action by meeting the local residents’ primary need, namely foodstuffs to prevent starvation resulting from the drought,” he said.

He added, PTFI will continue to coordinate with the Social Affairs Ministry and the military/TNI as well as Police, to monitor the situation and needs in Puncak Regency. “The next delivery of assistance from PTFI will take into account developments and basic needs in the impacted areas,” he said again.
