PT Freeport Indonesia Held Ecumenical Christmas Worship 2022 Themed “Christmas in Our Home”

06 December 2022

Although PT Freeport Indonesia’s (PTFI) employees and managements come from various backgrounds, they unified as a family in the Ecumenical Worship and Christmas Celebration 2022, themed “Christmas in Our Home,” which was held at the Kuala Kencana Multipurpose Hall, Mimika, Central Papua on Monday (5/12/2022).

There were messages in this Christmas theme that are inseparable from the company’s guidelines, namely SINCERE, which stands for Safety, Integrity, Commitment, Respect, and Excellence.

Several figures attended this Inter-Church Deliberative Body (BAMAG) Christmas Worship and Celebration of PTFI, such as Deputy President Director of PTFI, Jenpino Ngabdi; Director of PTFI, Claus Wamafma; Vice President of Industrial Relations of PTFI, Demi Magay; Environmental VP of PTFI, Gesang Setyadi; Chair of PTFI BAMAG, Natalis Edoway; Chairman of PTFI Christmas Committee, Bernart Laisina; also PTFI employees and their families.

The Christmas worship begins with a fragment about the lives of PTFI employees and their families celebrating Christmas together.

Continued with Rev. Stephen Salainti, M.Th that delivered the Christmas sermon, taken from the Book of Matthew 1:21, which says, “She will give birth to a son, and you will name Him Jesus because He will save His people from their sins.”

Moreover, in his speech, Deputy President Director of PTFI, Jenpino Ngabdi, noted that what happened in 2022 can give all PTFI employees and management an understanding to be able to leave old ways and be more creative, considering that PTFI is already 55 years old.

“This Christmas theme, ‘Our Home,’ means our Christian community that upholds mutual respect,” said Jenpino.

He also expressed gratitude throughout 2022, where PTFI achieved success and received high appreciation from President Jokowi and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani during a working visit some time ago.

“I believe that all PTFI employees will continue to improve performance to achieve a greater performance for a better change in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of PTFI BAMAG Natalis Edowai said it was an honor to be a PTFI employee and an Indonesian citizen because Christians could worship.

“I am proud to be a PTFI employee for 25 years. Today we can celebrate Christmas again with great fanfare, after more than two years without Christmas celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and this is the first time that all PTFI leaders from Jakarta are here to join the Christmas celebration with all employees and families at Multipurpose Mimika,” he said.

Furthermore, he mentioned that this year’s Christmas gives significant meaning to all Christians, especially PTFI employees, and their families.

“We know that the country was experiencing a crisis during the Covid-19 pandemic; many families lost their loved ones, many companies reduced their workforce due to Covid-19, and many of them reduced some of their employees’ income so they could survive. But, PTFI did not reduce its employees and fully give all workers’ rights. It proves that the presence of PTFI is a blessing for everyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Christmas Committee of PTFI BAMAG, Cynthia Nancy, stated that this year’s Christmas theme has a huge meaning because PTFI is a home for all employees from various ethnicities, nations, and religions, who are different but still one, in the warmth of family to maintain harmony, comfort, and mutual respect.

“Because the implementation of this Christmas was inseparable from the intervention of family members of the employees, as well as from the Lawland and Highland committees. Therefore I am very grateful that the Christmas Worship and Celebrations can go well. May the peace and joy of Christmas be a part of all of us; Merry Christmas 2022 and Happy New Year 2023,” said Cynthia.
