PT Freeport Partners with BPJS Health to Protect Employees

08 June 2023

Collaborating with Social Security Administrator for Health (BPJS Health) Jayapura Branch, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) continues to ensure that its employees are protected by the National Health Insurance (JKN) program. Hence, the BPJS Health Jayapura Branch was invited to be a speaker at the 20th 2023 Human Resources (HR) Forum, which PTFI and contractors held on Monday (5/6/2023).

HR Services Manager of PT Freeport Indonesia, Ahmad Hardi, said the Jayapura Branch of Social Security Administrator for Health (BPJS Health) in the 20th HR forum helped contractors understand the JKN program. "I would like to thank Social Security Administrator for Health, they were very helpful in providing information about the program to all HR contractor friends within PTFI," said Ahmad Hardi in an official statement received by TribunPapuaBarat.com, Thursday (8/6/2023).

Head of Social Security Administrator for Health (BPJS Health) Jayapura Branch, Deny Jermy Eka Putra Mase, explained the number of contractors or business entities at PTFI registered with BPJS Health was 125 out of 343 business entities or as a percentage of 36.44%. He said there were still 218 business entities, or 63.56%, that had not been registered with BPJS Health. "If you look at the data on business entities directly supervised by PTFI, 27 out of 36 business entities have registered with BPJS Health, and we really appreciate this achievement," said Deny Jermy Eka Putra Mase. He said that mining or energy sector business has a high risk, so everyone must have access to health insurance.

He also appealed to forum participants about the importance of compliance to support government programs in the health sector. "Seeing the relatively high risk in the field of business that PTFI and fellow contractors are involved in, we must be more aware of access to health for every person or employee working in the field," said Deny Jermy Eka Putra Mase. "The JKN program is mandatory for the government to be able to guarantee everyone's basic health and as a mutual cooperation effort to help others," he said. Deny hopes that after the forum, the percentage of PTFI contractor participation will increase, and they will understand more about the importance of the JKN program.

One of the forum participants, Anang, shared his experience of going to the Public Health Center with BPJS Health and feeling that the service provided was very easy and fast, even though he had not used it for a long time. "I was surprised because seeking treatment with BPJS Health was so easy. I came to the public health center, only asked to state my National Identity Number, and then waited for the doctor's queue. After that, I just took the prescription and medicine at the pharmacy. It was really fast and easy," said Anang.

The PTFI HR Forum is held three times a year to educate and provide the latest information to improve the performance of all employees within PTFI. The HR forum broadly discussed staffing and issues that occurred in the field, including; (1) employee recruitment for contractors; (2) Occupational Safety and Health (K3); and (3) International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards related to employee health. BPJS Health explains the JKN membership program and its implementation in the PTFI work area.
